Since I just posted on my methodology of strap modification last week ( http://tinyurl.com/ghmbw ), this time I'll just show the results of my initial messing with my new Baseball Strap. Before I start, let me add my impressions of this very well documented strap...as has been said far too many times to count, what a beauty! Right outta the envelope it's super-soft and supple...all it needs is bit of mushing around and a touch of glove oil and it'll have that slightly distressed, beat-down look I love in my straps.

Onto the photos!

Here is my trusty 86 wearing a BOB Vertigo Calf in Aubergine. Like the strap I modded last week, the baseball strap is very bright, but it's more orange than the raw yellow color of last weeks project...

Here you can see the soft, suede-like texture of the strap...

A couple of quick coats of my Louisville Slugger Glove Creme and less than 15 minutes later here is the result...

The bright orange has been replaced with a more vintage-looking terra cotta brownish shade. Here are a few wrist shots...

Brad,

How would you compare the baseball strap to the Gabo strap? Thanks in advance.

Brad,

How would you compare the baseball strap to the Gabo strap? Thanks in advance.

Well, I've never seen a Gabo, but I think I have a pretty good idea about what it would be like and that it wouldn't be very much like the Baseball strap. The Baseball strap is literally made from the same leather used in Baseball gloves so it has that distinct orangey color (or colour for you Canucks out there! :-D ) It is already extremely soft from the get-go, but it does have that vivid orange hue that will look better with age (and a bit of oil!).

The Gabo is made from new leather that is distressed by sanding the edges, etc., but from what I know it is not treated with any dyes or softening oils. It would probably be a lot like the strap I got from Allen Jeon last week and reported on here:

At least, that what it looks like to my naked eye...
