I picked up the (1980s?) Komandirski sub below which is in very good cosmetic condition but does not run. There is some damage to the hands, but other than that it looks in good shape to me. First, can anyone tell me which movement this is?

The watch was wound up tight when I got it. I have relaesed the main spring tension, which now seems to be OK. The balance spring looks OK too. But still not running at all. And I managed to lose the tiny return spring under the manual wind-retainer (the shiny screw at about 2 o'clock on the movement picture). So question 2 - would you wait for a less nice model with a working movement to come up or sell it on now? Or do you know where I can get an old movement cheap? And is this as nice a komandirski as I think it is?

If the right answer is "No, junk it", I can live with it....

It's not easy to identify the problem of your watch. Maybe the escapement wheel is broken?
Anyway, also the dial is not in very good conditions - it should be blue but it's so faded that it looks green. And the hands have lost their lume.
Considering that Ebay.de is full of "U-Boot" Vostoks (they can be bought for 10 Euro) , i would keep your watch for spare parts. Or you can change the movement swapping it from another Vostok (not necessarily a Komandirskie, and also in this case you can buy on Ebay.de for cheap prices) if you want to learn some watchmaking practice :-)

Michele - thanks - I will check the escapement wheel but I am pretty sure this one is dead. Are you sure on the dial colour? The dial is a very clear khaki green - it does not look as though it has faded from the usual blue colour. Having said that, I do not recall seeing a green one before.

Thanks for the tip about eBay.de. One question - is it common on German eBay for sellers to not want to sell outside Germany? The EU? Or just not to the USA? I saw each of the above more than once in my searches. Thanks.
