A good idea is to post a picture. I checked our best source (Dr. Ranfft's archive) and it isn't listed there.

Thanks Ray,

I pretty much know my way around Ranftts pages and know how to research on the web.

Hence, posting here. I was hoping someone would read this and have some info.

Hi -

It's a 17 jewel movement with a day-date complication, date hand and day window. The window is fairly unusual, close to the central post at the 3. The movement itself is probably from Longines, which, of course, was Wittnauer's parent company at the time. Seconds at a subdial at 6.

If anything, it reminds me of the classic Bulova movements that show the same general picture, with the day window at 12 between number and central post.

Looking at the Longines movements on Ranfft, the Longines 6972 might be a possibility, but without a picture of the Wittnauer movement it's impossible to be certain. Also hard to date without at least a picture of the watch and its movement.

We looooove pictures. They help soooo much. :-)
