A few quick shots of the new kid. This is my fifth from them and it is one of the best . It is nice to have a Company that prides in turning out good product.

Gary I gota tell ya, now that I've had a few moments to look mine over as well I am very disappointed! The watch head is flawless and I was surprised to see nice AR on the sapphire too but my bracelet is absolutely garbage! I'm so disappointed I can't even bring myself to complain about it...:-|

The dollar is too weak for me to waste money on something that isn't a sure thing, no more big purchases on no name brands for me until my dollar goes a little farther again! <|

Well congrats to you Gary and sympathies to OC?
A good looking watch overall but wouldn't a contrasting color for the hands have been better?

I've had some time to calm down but even after taking a deep breath I am still finding things wrong with mine, Even if my bracelet had been perfect the end links are a poor fit to the watch, I'm guessing because they are designed to fit the diver and this case is slightly different. I have also just noticed while I was admiring the great AR that there is a irritatingly large spec of dust on the minute hand between the lume cutout and the post.

As far as contrast of the hands and hour markers goes it's surprisingly easy to read just a little turn of the watch changes the reflections off the hands and markers and it all pops out nicely even against the white dial.

This experience won't stop my from buying or recommending Debaufre my experiences with them have been overwhelmingly positive but the next one I get from them is going to get a lot more scrutiny before I take it out of the box!

Steinhart = I think not

DeBaufre = where have i seen this before?

Buying elswhere, priceless! lol

Seriously sorry to hear you issues but I have always heard that you had to be really conscious of the price/point for these watches. I think going Japanese is the much better deal. IMO

This is my fifth Robert/Steinhart/Debaufre as well and the first one I have had any problems with. In defense of Debaufre I know with certainty that they would have been happy to exchange the watch or replace the bracelet If I asked.

Just to clarify things, for some reason the watch shipped without the protective mylar wrap on the bracelet, since the new Debaufre box is not a pillow box the bracelet got pretty scratched up being shipped from Florida all the way here to Oregon.

I got star struck and without fully inspecting the watch I removed the bracelet and refinished it to make it new again and then discovered that a couple of the removable links needed to be replaced or repaired. Since I had already altered the bracelet to refinish it I didn't feel comfortable asking for a replacement so I fixed the removable links too. I also discovered a spec of dust on the minute hand and removed it too.

I am mostly just mad because I ended up doing more work than I should have done and that's on me because I didn't fully inspect the watch to begin with. The average watch buyer would not have entertained the idea of refinishing the bracelet and would then have noticed the other minor problems and then called Debaufre and resolved the issue with a replacement bracelet or exchange of the whole watch.

At any rate now that I have it sorted out I am perfectly happy with the watch, just a bit mad at myself...

You should try to twist that negative emotion into something positive. Think of it this way: you put a lot of work into a piece that disgusted you at first but now you are happy with it.

Forget the fact that you could have handled the situation differently and focus on the fact that you, with all the warmth of your heart, decided to nurture the little, beaten, starved fellow back to health. Now he, and you as well, are better than ever!

How about that? b-)

And OW -- congrats! :-!

OK Chris aka OC
Just go look in your watch box and find the Explorer II and consider that it cost 4.5 K and that it is 10 atm, and then look at your new toy and see if you don't feel much better.:-!

I have that one with the black face. Easily my favorite watch and probably the closest I'll ever come to an Explorer. If you are interested, I wrote a review of that one. Enjoy! :-!
