Some time ago the Steinhart Triton was reviewed on WatchLonge, an austrian watch forum. To sum it up very short: "Budget friendly diver´s watch" !

I am this close to getting one myself Mike - the only thing I have not heard much about is feedback on the Selita movement...have you seen anyone commenting on that with the Triton?

The Steinhart Tritons use the workhorse ETA 2824-2
The Sellita SW 200 powering the Debaufré Tritons is an almost exact copy of the 2824-2. I haven't heard of any problems with the Sellita so far, probably just as reliable as the ETA.

I did not realize the Steinhart version still used the ETA, that is interesting, thanks! Yes, the feedback I have seen on the Sellita (not just in the Triton) has been that it "should be the same", but I am trying to find someone who has done a side by side, perhaps a performance test to see how well it does...only time will tell for the long term I guess...it will be interesting to see if other makers come up with auto's to compete for the 2824 void as the supply continues to dry up...Thanks!

I have the Debaufre version and I have not noticed any gains or losses over a couple seconds.
Also, I don't know what the power reserve is on it, but it keeps rolling long after it leaves my wrist.

Great to know! Anything new, particularly filling in for the 2824, has pretty big shoes to fill, glad to hear it is up to the task! Now if we could get Debaufre to add the power reserve complication to the Triton like the Orient divers... ha ha ha!

Well, Sellita worked for a long time with ETA movements, now - due to ETA restrictions for the years to come - Sellita decided to produce movements of their own. The SW 200 is a clone of the ETA 2824-2 known to be a workhorse - with one jewel more.
Starting in 2008 Sellita will offer the SW 220 (clone of the ETA 2836) and the SW 240 (clone of the ETA 2834).
A chronograph movement is said to be in the pipeline too (Baselworld 2008 ?, I don´t know) as well as I expect the SW 300 (ETA 2892-2) being launched in 2008.
Due to the fact th SW 200 is almost a clone of the ETA 2824-2 indicates that there are no big problems to foresee.
According to "Europastar" Sellita sells movements to a total of 350 different clients, and that its products equip about 30 percent of ‘Swiss Made’ mechanical watches. I know that some watches of Limes, Meistersinger, Oris, MarcelloC, Invicta, Chase-Durer (both not setting any standard to me) are equipped with the SW 200 and I never heard serious problems reported by customers.
I´d buy a SW 200 powered watch with confidence though.

Great info Mike - thanks...I first saw a Sellita in an Invicta a year or two ago, and have seen them creeping in slowly since - it sounds like it is time to take the plunge! Hopefully the date and GMT and Chrono permutations will be solid as well and help keep the costs down...And it probably wouldn't hurt to collect up some old 2824s when they come up cheap... Thanks again

I recently (as in within 2 weeks!) purchased a Bathys 100F which I have read contains a Sellita SW200. I have emailed John @ Bathys to find out, but haven't heard back from him.

In any case, the watch gains ~12 seconds a day on the wrist, ~13 seconds crown up, and ~18-19 seconds crown down. I haven't finished dial up measurements yet. To me, this means the moevement is only adequately adjusted and regualated (the latter is especially annoying). Is this a clear strike against the Sellita, assuming this is a Sellita? I don't necessarily think so; base ETA 2824's can run like this, too. It really depends upon what the watchmaker specs. This movement, if regulated a little better, would certainly fall within ETA's specs. And Sellita's, I would suspect. It's probably just a lowend movement.

Regardless it's the worst-timed 2824 based movement I've yet owned, that's for sure. I've been pretty spoiled by +2 s/day, 2 STDEV 2824's, I guess.

I keep very detailed daily notes on the rates of my watches, I'd be happy to share as time goes on... And I find out what's in this thing.

Some tracking would be great! While there are so many variables that contribute to mechanical accuracy (let's face it, that includes how well the delivery driver handled it as well!!!!), I would agree with you that in general 12-19 secs is the upper end for what I would expect from a 2824, even out of the box...your point about that being the result of it being a "low end" version is a good point, as I know different manufacturers "massage" them to varying degrees, or not at all... but I guess I am surprised that this would be the case in a Bathys, as I don't think the Bathy's are in the low end of the price scale for watches with movements of this type! LOL! On the other hand, 2 secs a day is at the other end so yes, you are a bit spoiled there! I guess in the end, for me, I don't rely on my mechanicals for "atomic time" standards, I have some Gshocks for that! :)

I'd be happy to post results later this month after a trip to Florida, where the Bathys will see constant duty. I would also like to hear back from John @ Bathys as to what movement is in my 100F, and whether he deems this average performance for that movement. Regardless, watch the dive forum for my watch review late in January.

What is the buckle size on straps what comes with the watch? It is 22mm or 24mm?

Thanks

I never did make it to Florida, but I have worn in the Bathys and the results can be found here:

Hi All,

Interesting thread - just put an order in with Steinhart for the Triton Orange version. Any comments from current owners? I'm looking forward to see if the lume looks as great as the pictures... :-p

The reason I went down the "orange" road was because the design is somewhat out of the ordinary. The small step away from the more regular black seems very refreshing - but I'll be all the wiser when the watch arrives - don't y'all just hate waiting for the package when the decision has been made and the order placed ;-)

Be back with pictures when I get my hands on the Triton.

I loved the Triton that I had (Black Dial)... only found a few thing that I thought should be changed... Dial was a little busy, lume was average, and the crown/crown guards made it a little tough to wind... besides that I think the Triton is an excellent value and a great wrist presence... Hopefully some of those changes will take place with the new models.. I would choose the Orange dial when I get another unless the dial is a modified to be a little less busy..

Hi All,

Recieved my Triton yesterday! What a great watch... nice solid weight, very nice thick sharkskin strap in place. I've attached a couple of quick pictures for inspiration. I went for the Triton Orange mainly because of the orange dial and it doesn't disappoint in real life; and it's a great effect that the dial includes the orange lume as well. Very sweet b-).

Also: The service with Steinhart has been great! Really wanted the watch to arrive before travelling abroad for a couple of weeks. Wrote this in an email to Steinhart after having placed the order itself - the company made sure the watch was sent as fast as possible and it actually would have arrived a day earlier than expected if I had been home to accept the package - but I hadn't anticipated such as fast delivery. Also recieved an email from Günther Steinhart himself as a follow-up - he just wanted to make sure that the watch had arrived on time. Not bad at all... not bad at all.

Looking forward to getting to know the Triton better over the next couple of weeks - can't see myself getting disappointed ;-)

See Y'all.

Hi again,

Just snapped a couple of quick lumepics of the Triton. The normal green lume on hands, bezel 60 and at 12, 3, 6 and 9 o'clock keep power the longest whereas the orange lume between the other hour intervals are very cool and quite special to look at. They don't keep up the same level up power; but they look GREAT b-).

Hope you like it - I would absolutely recommend the Triton Orange!

Awesome shots Jesper!! My orange Triton arrived today, and I love it. It's admittedly a little "different" to me, as this is my first orange watch, but it's definitely cool. I ordered mine on the "Vintage Rustica" strap, and it really adds a special aura to the watch. Tonight, I'll be checking out the lume for sure, and hopefully get some photos as well this weekend of it next to my black Triton. Thanks again for your impressions, and great pictures!!
