I recently broke down and purchased a sinn arktis. As I always do with any new watch addition I read every available review, description and sales pitch for this watch on every message board and sales website I could find. By the time I was done I thought I knew pretty much everything there was to know about it. However when I received the watch I was surprised to find "limitierte Auflage" printed on the back of the Arktis box along with "XXX" (a hand written number) of 1000 pieces.

This surprised me since no where on any site was the watch advertised as any type of limited edition, so I went back and checked but nowhere could I find info on what this number pertains to.

In the current watch market limited editions are usually advertised with gusto so I would think if the Arktis is a LE then this aspect wouldn't be hard to find, but I can't find a single mention of it anywhere.

Since the box has the number on it and not the watch itself I considered that perhaps this was some simply some sort of limited edition packaging as this is the arctic "glacier" box with pictures of a polar diver and I've seen other Arktis boxes without these images (and some which are just in a plain black Sinn box).

Does anyone have any info on exactly what this number means? I'm unfamiliar with sinn so perhaps there is a simple explanation that I have overlooked that you sinn experts could enlighten me on.

:-)

PS-This watch has quickly taken the lead as my daily wear and I'll be sure to write a review after a few weeks of use.

Hi David, this is the first I have heard of a LE Arktis. You might want to e-mail Sinn and see what they say?

If it's not too much trouble, could you post some pics of the big blue beauty? I have seen smaller pics here and there but really nothing on this forum. I hear the blue sheen to the dial is spectacular!! but the pics I have seen really doesn't show this aspect.

thanks and hope you find some answers, very interesting stuff!!

cheers,
Tim

Hi Tim

I'll be glad to post some pics, I tried to take some earlier today but my camera is low grade and the reflection of the blue dial causes too much of a glare for it to capture. A friend of mine has a higher quality cannon that I plan to borrow and hopefully get some decent shots, there's still about 5 inches of snow on the ground where I am from last weeks storm so some outdoor pics would be perfect.

You purchased a beauty,

I sold my Arktis to my dad, (indeed not limited and no special box) and still regret it.
And yes Tim, the dial is beautiful, it's a stunner.
If they made one in a polished tegiment casing I would buy it back.
It's so shiny that it is a shame to scratch it.

Enjoy the Sinn Arktis, and let us see some pics,

Cheers,

Daddel.

one of the early FULDA special editions. They came with the blue dials and the special low temperature lubrication. Any more info on the watch?

Hi

I don't think it's a fulda edition as it was only just recently purchased. the watch itself has no special markings that differ it from other arktis watches I've seen (I'm still trying to take pics but my camera's flash bounces off the reflective blue dial and all i get is a blurry glare). Here is a pic of the arktis box (the pics are lousy but I think by far it's the best box artwork I've ever gotten with a watch!) and the backside which shows the limited edition number.

Hello David,

with the "Limited Edition" of 1000 pieces Sinn means only the blue arctic box. Your 203 Arktis is the same than the other and not limited. I don' know in which year they sold this edition, but it is a nice gimmick. If i should have the money, i would buy a Sinn 203 Arktis, too.:-D

With regards,

Jack

Hi David, was down at my AD earlier today and checked, it seems that only the box is limited and not the watch. But both my AD and I could be wrong. :-D

Anyway, congrats on your new Sinn :-! The Arktis 203 is a great watch, limited or not B-) Wear it in good health ;-)

THANKS GUYS!

I suspected it was probably the packaging. This is unique as I'm not aware of another instance were a watch company produced a limited edition box with no alteration to the watch itself. Still, it's a GREAT looking box and I think sinn would be wise to keep producing it with the arktis after the edition has completed.

thanks again-dave|>
