I have been looking for one of these for a few years now and never, (until recently) found one at the right price/trusted seller/nice condition/enough funds ...ect, etc..

I still don't have the funds, however could not resist this opportunity, so there may be a couple of watches in the sales corner soon to compensate.

I have wanted a PloProf for a long time - I got to hold one at the Omegamania preview in London and decided there and then to try and find a good example.. This one has just had a full service and looks like new. Not sure, but I think the dial hands and bezel must be replacements, as the lume is quite strong, which is fine with me as I wanted one I could wear..

Just have to decide what to put on the chopping block so that I can pay for it..

More pics when I find some springbars as the ones it came with are too thick for the mesh...

Best regards

Mark

Very nice, Mark. Now get ready to explain what that thing is, because every non-WIS is going to ask. Maybe you should just record something and hit play whenever someone asks. Enjoy it!

I am wordless.

Yeah, Mark. Me be wordless too. What a find, If you don't mind, could you give us a round about idea of what these watches are selling for, in the real world? If you're not comfortable with that, would you PM me? I'd be most interested. Thanks, and a hey, what a great watch! David

David - there was a great thread posted yesterday by that Joe K. guy with some of the results from the latest AQ auction. Not sure these are great indications but 4 of these sold at that auction. One first generation went for 9000 (US$ or CHF= the same now) and 3 second generation watches went for 6000, 6000 and 7000 US$ each.

Yeah, Mark. Me be wordless too. What a find, If you don't mind, could you give us a round about idea of what these watches are selling for, in the real world? If you're not comfortable with that, would you PM me? I'd be most interested. Thanks, and a hey, what a great watch! David

Many thanks to all for the kind comments..
I just wish I had bought one of these when I was getting paid to get wet... Found an old log-book recently (see pic) it would have been a lot cheaper in the 80's....In those days I had a Pulsar quartz to accompany me, actually I still have it and want to get it fixed one day..

I am not an expert on PloProf prices but have seen them rise steadily over the last few years – they are still around for about the same price as a new Sea Dweller… or Planet Ocean Chrono. It all depends on the condition, the first versions are more expensive than the latter models like mine..

I think that I have found some 24mm 1.8mm springbars that will work, so more pics tomorrow if they turn up..
Best regards

A watch with as much presence as that, must be worn on top of the shirt sleeve.

Stunning !

I saw one of these in the Omega specialist in the Burlington Arcade, it really is one of the weirdest, but coolest watches I have ever seen!

Uber cool in fact b-)

I was reading an article today about USN Capt. Alfred McLaren's 1970s exploration and mapping of the Arctic sea-foor at the height of the cold war on the USS Queenfish-a huge, jet black behemoth of a sub that I think was the first of the 'sturgeon' class subs. The article was accompanied with a few photos of the sub, the crew, etc. I could barely make out the huge watch on one of the men and I couldn't help thinking about the beauty you just acquired. So many today associate Omega onlt with the status and prestige and forget that many were powerful little machines designed for rugged precision work where lives were dependent. maybe your diving days are not as frequent but you'll always appreciate what you have that much more than those who are just [and nothing wrong with] watch collectors. congratulations
