View Full Version : B-1 model history?

Can anyone help me to a history of different B-1 versions?
Is the only major change the SuperQuartz movement or have there been more?
I'm contemplating buying a used B-1 (or new if the price is right), and compare it to my X-33. But first I want to make sure I have the right version.

Thanks.

I bought my used B-1 and it's a non-SQ but I am happy with it anyway :-D

Kind regards,

Thanks Cing, that's exactly what I mean. I should have looked a bit harder before posting my question.
I guess it doesn't really matter what version I get, as long as it looks good, and works flawlessly.
For a few months now I have been wearing my Omega X-33 on nearly all of my flights, and I have to say that it does everything I expect of a watch, and more. But I want to give the B-1 a chance to prove that it is a worthy competitor. :-)

Unfortunately I don't fly so can't tell you if it has everything you need. I do hope you fly a big aircraft, otherwise the weight of the B-1 might tilt it :-D

I find the way of changing functions very easy but sometimes the movement of the wrist results in changing it by accident. It happened to me several times on the mountainbike because of the gloves, in 'normal life' it happened only once.

I hope you find a good B-1, I am sure you won't be disappointed and you are in fine company here B-)

Kind regards,

Cinq

Ron,

It is good to see you pay a visit to your erstwhile home - welcome back!!

As well as the great info already posted in this thread about B-1's you could also follow the links below to two more recent threads. In one of them I did a little survey of B-1 history as listed in the Chronologs. Also there is some good information about the differences between the SuperQuartz and non-SuperQuartz versions as well as other information.

B-1 questions (http://forums.watchuseek.com/showthread.php?t=13652)

Different B-1s (http://forums.watchuseek.com/showthread.php?t=13474)

I don't know if you are aware of the fact that the B-1 has been replaced. The new watch is called the AirWolf and was shown at Basle a few weeks ago. It has the same calibre 78 movement as the SuperQuartz B-1.

Don't forget to let us know what you buy....

Thanks Altro, very useful information as always.
So far I see little difference in the different versions. I don't really need a watch that's more accurate then the original B-1, so I guess I don't need the SuperQuartz. And the Airwolf is not an improvement in my opinion. I prefer the countdown bezel, and I prefer the old more functional dial.
I feel the Airwolf is proof of what I have been afraid of sometime already. That Breitling is trying to move upmarket (more expensive if you want), and in doing so is continuously making their watches more impressive, even if that's only visually, but less 'tool-like'.
So it's probably going to be a pre-SQ used B-1.
As soon as I've found one, I'll let you know. And I intend to do a real-life test, and comparison with the Omega X-33 after having used it for some time.
