Dear watch fanatics,
I would like your suggestions/recommendations for buying my first Omega watch. This will probably not happen until the later part of the year but I would like to plan ahead. My dream Omega watch is an Omega Seamaster 007 edition but I can't afford it at the moment. So if I want an Omega sporty or classy, with Chronograph, round shaped with SS bracelet in the lowest price range of the Omegas, which one would you recommend.
Would you also recommend a source for nice second hand Omega?
What price range should I expect?
Regards,
PS: I will be posting the similar question about the Breitling.

Without a doubt, I would recommend a "pre-owned" Speedy Pro!

i second Fr. John's choice. The legendary Speedmaster...very classy and sporty and, of course, the history. if you like the vintage look, you simply can not do any better IMO.
i think it is representative of omega watches in general--not overly blingy, refined and stylish, and has PRESENCE.
just check out all the threads espousing the virtues of this watch...good luck

It really depends on your price range, Ed. While, my first (and second and third...) pick for a chronograph would be a pre-owned Speedy Pro, you're looking at around $1700 for one in nice condition. If that's more than you'd like to spend, right now, you might consider a pre-owned Speedmaster Reduced (http://www.omegawatches.com/index.php?id=305).

It might not have the history or Lemania movement of the Pro, it's an extremely well made, durable watch, with styling that reflects that of the classic Pro. With a little bit of patience, you should be able to find one pre-owned, in nice condition, for under $1000.
I'd keep an eye on the Sales Forums, here and on TZ.
Good luck on your search!

The Speedmaster is a very nice watch that can be worn for all ocasions..I think it would look just as nice out on the town as it would in a meeting room. I just got mine yesterday and it is hard to put it down...:-!

First Omega, how exciting.:-!
If your dream is to own a bond why not start with the seamaster line anyways?
I say, and I'm bias here, get a nice 2541 or 2531. The first is quartz the second Automatic.b-)
I like the quartz because its hassle free as far as maintenance goes. No service fee etc. Just a battery change and pressure test every few years. My third Omega will be an automatic, well that was the plan for my second omega until a good deal popped up in the quartz again.

If your not worried about box and papers the quartz can be picked up for about $800 without much searching. $1000 with box and papers in good condition. The auto can start about $1000 without box and papers and maybe $1300 with the set. If your not into blue, why there are plenty of other seamaster quartz or auto's around which can suit an entry level budget.

Look at the sales corner here or go over to
http://forums.timezone.com/index.php?t=threadt&frm_id=32
which also has sellers of pre-owned watches.
Ebay is an awesome source too.
Be preparied to learn a bit before you buy if your getting pre-owned. Lot of scammers out there but once you use common sense and get some advice from your buddies here, you'll be fine.
If your unsure about a watch being authentic, just post Pics here.

If you ever want to chat to me about buying online, just PM me;-)

Thank you so much for your detailed response.
I tend to like the Seamaster better than the Speedmaster but I've never looked at Omega intensively until now.
I will definitely PM if needed.

Thanks for the nice suggestions of the Speedmaster.
I'm now reading more about the Speedmaster. I've always been attracted by the Seamaster line more, but I'm not ignoring the Speedmaster.
Thanks a lot guys for all your advice.

I looked at the attached link. THanks a lot for all that information.
I'm always up and willing to research and purchase a pre-owned item given that quality and value are positive.
I'm fortunate to get great answers from all of you.
