Hello.
I'm trying to help my neighbor get information on her late husband's watches.
Any information on the age and quality of this Elgin watch would be appreciated by both of us.
Pat.

It is probably a rolled gold plate case (very thick gold plating). The one case shot seems to indicate it is a 20 year Royal case...
As to the age, the serial number dates the movement to about March of 1907.
Looks like a nice watch. Not expensive nowadays (this is the thirteenth million made so these are not rare) ... but not cheap when it was made.
The experts will know more!

According to elginwatches.org (best source for info on Elgin watches IMHO) your friend's watch is a size 0, 7 jewel grade 320 watch made in 1906. There were 914,000 of this model made between 1903 and 1916 and this watch is one of a run of 5000.
This would have been a low end watch based on the fact that it only has 7 jewels and based on its small size probably used by a woman.
Elgin made between 50 and 55 million watches over its 100 years of production, the most of all the US manufacturers.
