Hi, I'm new around here and my name is Rick so, Hello All! Anyhow, I'm a Tag Heuer admirer from way back and recently I stumbled upon an absolutely gorgeous new Aquaracer Chrono with a black dial and the black and stainless rotating bezel. What a nice watch!! Looking through the latest literature on Tags I see that it shows the movement as being a Caliber 16. Does anyone know if that corresponds to a Valjoux movement or some sort of ETA movement? I can't emphasize strongly enough (especially being an Omega man myself) how well this watch compares with the Bond SMP Chrono from Omega at about $1200 less than the Omega.
Thanks,
RickS

This model uses a Valjoux 7750, which actually IS an ETA movement. ETA is part of the Swatch Group which owns Omega. The Bond SMP chrono also uses a modified Valjoux 7750, and the modifications are quite extensive.

This model is NOT COSC certified, while the Seamaster is. That's one of the reasons for the large price difference. This is only important in that, if the watch falls out of COSC spec, Omega will fix it under warranty during its warranty coverage period of 2 years. However, every mechanical watch is different, so you may end up with a non-COSC certified watch that keeps better time than a much more expensive COSC certified one. It's in the "luck of the draw", so to speak. Besides, any competent watchmaker can regulate a watch to keep better time, so this isn't a huge concern.

Thanks John. Not saying the Omega isn't worth the price at all. Just amazed that the Tag was so reasonably priced considering it uses the same BASE caliber movement as the Omega. I would certainly consider the Tag for myself, not over the Omega but just because it's about the best looking new Tag I've seen, personally.

So far my Aquaracer Chronograph seems to be within +/- 2 sec a day but that is only if I keep it face up at night. In other positions it can gain or lose more I think, up to 4 or 5 sec each way. It actually seems to be -2/day at the moment, it has lost about 21sec over the last 3 weeks which is actually an average of -1 sec a day.

Anyway I am still very happy with that.
