Very nice indeed Fr. John. I never understood why Omega never did that upgrade on the 2254.

Applied logo and markers. I always did want to see the non-America's cup dial on the Black SMP and wished Omega offered it as such. Although, I prefer to have just the logo applied and not the word "Omega". Looks great Fr. John!

I don't know, John. It seems like you're inching closer and closer to a PO every day. :-)

Absolutely stunning, Fr. John. Really like giving the watch that non-AC look, but keeping the black bezel.

Good thing the padre has good taste! :-) His creations look great!

OTOH, if I were to 'create' something it would look garbage. Oh well, I've been dealing with my lack of artistic sense all my life and it ain't gonna get any better in my remaining years. :-(

NO WAY! <|

Don't mess up a classic replacing a tried and true, bulletproof movement with one of those new-fangled coaxial thingies. :-d

Thanks, Scott, but Gary in Lawrenceville did the surgery.

I'm undertaking a project over the weekend and if it goes well, I'll be back with Gary again on Monday for anther procedure.

Ain't watches fun? :-d

Awesome! I love the applied markers. The Fed Ex guy hasn't even showed up with mine yet today and I already want to have that done.

Believe me, it's not that I want a new 2254.50, but it is unfortunately gone; discontinued by Omega as we all know.

If it is ever resurrected, it is going to have the coaxial movement in it. Unfortunately, I think it will also have the skeleton hands and round markers of the Bond SMPs.

I would so much rather that if they change the dial, they update it with raised logo and applied baton markers like in this watch. I might buy another.

It does make the watch a little more classy with the applied marker and Logo..

I wish there was a watchmaker in Sydney that could do that....

Fr - how did he remove the original markings and logo or did he order a blank face and apply themhim self..??

Pls do tell

Cheers

I'm curious how it was done.

My watchmaker simply replaced the original dial with the non-AC dial.

...but I don't think I like it.

The applied logo is an improvement and applied metal markers were on my 'wish list' for improvements at one time, but seeing it actually done I'm not sure I like it. The extra bling seems contradictory with the functional aesthete to my eye, especially in concert with the waves on the dial.

But don't let that ruin your enjoyment, especially if it looks better in the flesh than in the photos. :)

I'm still not sold completely on the POs, a lot of it being price. I love the 2254 and now this makes it perfect. I should have gotten the 2254 when I was able to find it for $1500 instead of the $1700+ I'm seeing now.

Excuse my ignorance but what is the non-AC dial?

It's the same dial as the America's Cup Seamaster with the regular Seamaster markings.

What, no one quibling over modifying a Omega? Wow...;-)

It looks great Fr. John, I think it looks much nicer myselfb-) I especially love how light reflects off of applied metal Omega symbol, etc.. Enjoy!

I've received several PM's asking what I meant by "facelift" so I thought I would place one answer in this thread for all to see.

The 2254.50 as shipped by Omega has the logo and markers painted on the dial as mine had originally:

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a374/jmsrolls/watches/Black%20SMP/dial.jpg

Several years back, Omega came out with a limited edition SMP called the America's Cup with special engraving, 18K WG bezel, and markers and logo which were applied to the dial face and not painted. This model also had an America's cup painted on the dial.

Subsequently, Omega introduced a non-America's Cup model that was not a limited edition without the America's Cup and special engraving. This was the 2230.50 Seamaster which is no longer available from Omega. (See Hippocampus' photo of his beautiful non-America's Cup in this thread.)

What my watchmaker did was to replace the original dial on my 2254.50 with the dial that came on the 2230.50; i.e., "face-lift":

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a374/jmsrolls/watches/Black%20SMP/new2.jpg

Thanks for all the nice comments.

Looks great!

I was drawn to the co-axial Bond because of the applied markers but didn't really want the co-axial movement.

I've seen some older Bonds where the lume is yellowed and it looks kinda blah. The applied markers don't really bling it up, IMHO, but just give the markers some definition and i think will make it age better.

Looks great congratulations..

I have often thought about trying a black bezel on my non AC.

I love the 18k bezel - but am a bit afraid of scratching it.

Best regards

Mark,

The 18k bezel is beautiful but the dial looks good even with the black bezel.

One of my favorites, Mark. I've always wanted one. Umm, my birthday is tomorrow if you feel like you'd want to give a present to an old, fat, crippled guy. Yeah, this is where you are waiting for the smiley. Sorry, I'm serious. PM me for my address. Thanks in advance.
