Well, I will be leaving for the Caribbean in a few weeks and debating whether or not I should wear my Skyland. I'll be doing plenty of diving/snorkeling and I realise that it is built to handle it, however I am being somewhat of a "wuss".

As funny as it may sound, I am worried about the dial being exposed to sunlight more than anything else. I have never come across a thread where someone living in a sunny local ever complaining of dial fade and have read that Breitling subjects their dials to extensive UV exposure testing as well, yet I am still worried.

Could someone please put my mind at ease....thanks:thanks

Once a worry-wart......!

If I'm worrying about something and some-one effectively puts my mind at ease, my first priority is to find something else to worry about. Itlooks as if your own answers ought to do the job and if they don't, what would satisfy you? Maybe some-one could help.

I would be more worried about accidentaly hitting it on a piece or rock or coral and scratching something.

Depends which island you are going to but I'd be more worried about having it relieved from me at gunpoint.

I personally leave my nice watches at home when I go to the Caribbean or similar areas. On that type of vacation the time is irrelevant, and fashion is the least of my worries when I'm lying on the beach or by the pool. If I were diving and required a watch I would take something cheap. Primarily, I just dont feel safe having one there. So I just leave them at home where I know they'll be waiting for me.

Yeah, I have to agree with this comment. Maybe I'm just paranoid but a nice watch screams "steal me" in certain places. This is where I bring out my super tough, almost indestructible, most certainly waterproof G-shock!

A related story - my brother is a professional pilot and he had to put down in the country of Congo due to a major weather system. He was not authorized to land and was met at gun point. At the last minute, he had decided NOT to bring is GMT Rolex. Good call, because he had to pay a "landing fee" of US cash and his Timex digital watch! True story.

I would take it without hesitation. I wouldnt worry about sunlight at all, unless you plan on leaving it out in the sun for a few weeks straight.

I'm very much of the mind, if you've got a watch, wear it and enjoy it.
I get a huge enjoyment from wearing my B.

If we all kept our watches locked up in a safe it would be a very boring world.

Obviously if you know it's going to be damaged by certain activities or maybe lead you into danger, then definitely don't wear it.
But it's not often I choose not to wear my watch due to factors beyond my control.

Then again, we're all different, so go with what you feel happiest with. Weigh up the amount of pleasure you get from wearing your watch and see does that outweigh the risks....

Good luck and best wishes,

Verner

I used to spend a lot of time in the water with my Omega SMP before I sold it and I'm always in the water with my Seiko Sumo now and when I finally get my Spring Drive Marinemaster, I'll do the same.

Take it. Wear it. Use it.

Just got back from the Caribbean last month and thoroughly enjoyed having my SMP with me. What islands are you going to? I wouldn't worry too much about getting robbed for your watch. Just be cautious like you would anytime you aren't in familiar territory. Chances are you will stand out as a tourist regardless of a fancy watch.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I will be diving in Grand Cayman and the Turks.

if you are worried about your watch, don't take it. Otherwise, it could add a bit of unecessary anxiety to your vacation.

Frank, you do have a point. As I mentioned earlier, scratches do not bother me to be honest. Just worried about the dial being exposed to strong sunlight. I havent heard of anyone complaining about dial fade therefore I have nothing to worry about.

I believe the 2006 Chronolog makes mention of a UV test where the dial is exposed to 72 hours of UV light which is equivalent to 365 days of sunlight.
