View Full Version : How did we miss this one from Basel?

It is delightful during the spring when the Swiss watch manufacturers parade their finest and newest inventions . . . .

. . . but there are some that manage to escape the attention of the watch buying press. I guess there are so many they can't all be announced and given the proper reception. Lately the darlings of the press have all had tourbillons, silicium or are all black "stealth watches" -- that one can't read.

I, of course, didn't go to Basel this year, but Jim, at my favorite local AD, annually makes the pilgrimage. He gave me a press guide and directory to the exhibition.

Some of you are familar with Andersen Geneve . . . .

http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k268/hewybaby/Watch%20Misc/Andersen/DSC_1426-1.jpg

. . . .maker of haute horology pieces and automata.

I think this year he has topped himself. He has created an ultimately usable watch, incorporating elements of one of the world's most well known and beloved artworks . . . .

And I really can't understand why this watch didn't get more press coverage?

Sometimes the watch press is cruel in their igoring fine creations that do not fit their criteria . . . . perhaps if he added a tourbillon?

Really classy Sam and it should have been the rage of Basel.
I usually prefer my fine artwork in the medium of "oil on velvet"
as it matches my Elvis paintings, but I'd wear it.
Looks like Andersen has a winner there. Its difficult
to hide good taste.

That's just brilliant. Can't imagine what it sells for, but would complement my garage gallery.

A true classic indeed..... Taste is a subjective matter and Svend Andersen has been known to create some watches that push the envelope. Here is an interesting article with some pictures of his creations. MAke sure to scroll all the way to the bottom....

That's why I hang out here. You just don't get that sort of thing elsewhere.
Couple of those Anderson watches would be perfect to wear on "hump day".

Well now, I am beginning to like the Omega Forum even better. On some other forums the erotic would be too exotic and they would be myopic and make it a banned topic!

Good job, well done, and enjoyable as all get out!

paul

hump day indeed!

I guess we all have different standards, but Dogs Playing Poker is just a bit too highbrow, David. I can admit that I'm just not that classy.

The urinal always makes me laugh.... I think its ironic that Duchamp intended this as "anti-art"- yet it has been displayed in the most "important" mainstream galleries and museums and hailed by critics....:-d

Here's one that I fondled at a recent So Cal GTG

This was okay, but the dogs playing cards raised the bar for him.

Man, I'd hate to see what the losing dogs are subjected to, on the reverse side of the watch!!
Incidentally, some famous brands make, or use to make, erotic watches. Blancpain for instance...

Today, certain manufacturers, instead of making watches with people s******, instead just use watch movements that s**** up. I hear they were originally only going to make 33xx of them, but they have spread throughout the product line.

Some of these movements are quite beautiful. Some of them even have blue screws (excuse me, s*****).

I think that should be the "s****** up" message, David. :-d

LCD, David, always thinking of the LCD. Not every one is as quick as a Moose -- and has family experience with s***** up watches and watches that come in the exclusive "rodent exercise device" case.
