after a long absence from eBay, i've been tempted back to make a few purchases (ie: the casio md-703 i posted on the dive forum).

i'm pursuing a policy of not leaving feedback for sellers until after they leave feedback for me. my rationale is that they get paid before i receive the item i've paid for so they should leave me feedback before i do for them. but so far, out of 6 purchases, only one seller has left feedback for me.

it probably didn't help that a long while ago i got revenge feedback for a negative i left a seller that badly misdescribe their item. and i don't think the fact that sellers can't now leave negative feedback is a solution as they can leave negative remarks instead. i'm rather of the opinion that eBay feedback has become meaningless now.

what do others think of this issue?

A seller can only give positive feedback. I guess they could click positive and then slam you, but who reads the feedback? Most people only look at the percentage.

As a seller it is hardly worth while to leave feedback anymore. All you can say is if they paid promptly.

eBay is becoming increasingly geared toward the buyer at the expense of the seller.

Chad is correct. E-Bay has changed its' feedback policies. In my opinion, not for the beter of the seller. Sellers can only leave pos FB.

That said. I have also encountered the problem you encountered.
I now leave feedback for any purchase I make once it arrives and I am satisfied. If the seller doesn't reciprocrate I email him. Usually that takes care of things.

As a seller, I leave feedback only after feedback has been received.

When I sale something I will usually email the buyer and ask them to leave feedback and once they do I will leave them feedback.... I have to say that over all I am very disappointed in ebay. I have lost 300 dollars because of paypal screwing me for one.... two I have reported several fakes and they never seem to take them off..... So some poor sucker ends up paying 1k for a fake....

as a seller, i leave feedback when i recieve payment for the item sold. i believe the problem eBay had with feedback could have been resolved if eBay had ensured the seller left feedback first. this would have permitted the seller to leave negative feedback for non-paying bidders, which is really the only reason to do so anyway IMO.

The system is definitely flawed. To be fair though, a buyer can still be a bad buyer even after they pay. Maybe they claim not to have received the item. Maybe they file a chargeback afterwards. Maybe they claim it took 3 weeks to receive the item, even though you have proof that you mailed it the day after payment Etc....

Its a silly system, and I believe that the only solution is for eBay to require feedback to be left for every transaction, by both buyer and seller.
