Hi all

I dug out my old Zenith Surf the other day - bought it as NOS some years back (about 10).

I used to know the info about this watch - but sadly time has dulled my memory!

Wonder if anyone could help me out? Its a stainless steel case with simply 'Zenith' and 'Automatic' on the dial. Dial is silver in colour with date and 4.30. Case is sort of rectangular in shape.

Back reads 'Surf Stainless Steel' & '01.1460.380'. I know it has a 17 jewel auto movement but that's it.

I'd really like to know things like:
- Date it was made/sold
- Movement details like bph etc.

I've looked on various sites but can't seem to find much.

Thanks a lot.

Hmmmm - don't know that model offhand. Must be a Zenith "Surf" of sorts. Still, the reference number points to an in-house Zenith movement. The reference code in Zenith watches generally has the movement reference last, in your case "380". If you go to www.uhrenpreise.de (http://www.uhrenpreise.de), pick "Zenith" and then "Automatic", you will find a - totally different! - watch with a movement reference 380 and a Calibre 2572 PC. This dates from the late sixties and the seventies and was the last genuine Zenith movement made before the quartz crisis temporarily put a stop to in-house production. The later watches with ETA movements generelly have movement reference codes like 462 or 492 which are often split with a dot: "4.62" or "4.92". So, I would think that your watch is from the late sixties or early seventies and has an in-house movement. The beat rate is probably 28800A/h but holding it up to your ear and counting against a reference time on another watch/clock should be able to tell you that!

Some pictures might help!

If you can get the serial number off the movement and send it to Zenith in an email, you will have your questions answered.

Keep us posted!

Hi

I emailed the details to Zenith and sure enough they came back within a couple of days with the details. I just gave them the details from the back of the case.

Its a watch from 1970 and has a 2572PC movement.

Thanks very much.
