Hi Everyone,

Take a look at this.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260311550648&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fshop.ebay.co.uk%3A80%2F%3F_from%3D R40%26_trksid%3Dm38.l1313%26_nkw%3D260311550648%26 _sacat%3DSee-All-Categories%26_fvi%3D1

My bid was 105 dollars - based on the (fair) assumption that I wanted the box to match a Top Time from that period and about 1/10th of watch value for a box is about right - okay i added a bit as i was prepared to pay a little more.

But I could buy the watch that goes in the box for this price - I guess someone went crazy with their automated bidding tool.

I talk as a (Karen's words) "nutter" who has twenty boxes under the spare bed.

That's a hell of a lot of cash for that! IMUHO

tis is a common way of gaining value if you sell a vintage watch
thats not in mint condition

the value including the box is lower than the watch and box separately

therefor its hard for us serious vintage collectors to connect the box to a specific watch

only a very well documented watch and box from original owner
is worth the extra money

but this don't the buyer in vintage boxes know

last year it was several vintage boxes and certificates on ebay
i followed them
and some came back now with a watch for sale
stated "orginal box and cert and watch"o|

Jonas,

I think we understand all that - I have been doing the same as you and tracking these things - but 480 dollars - someone made a boo boo this time !!!

I had one of these a couple of years ago that I paid $65 for minus papers. I have paid up to $150 for vintage watch boxes and always recouped that investment when combining it with the corresponding Breitling I wanted to sell. Many different vintage Breitlings used the same boxes including documented Breitlings coming in Wakmann boxes. There were many different boxes use for the Navitimer 806, for example, over it's lifespan.
