Just treating my customers as I would like to be treated.

i also got a call from Fedex with a bunch of questions about the package (hopefully they won't delay delivery). Anyone else in the US get that?

November 26th, 2008, 15:27
Yeah, I just got the Fedex call... they wanted to know the material of the case, caseback, strap, country of origin of the movement, number of jewels, whether it was mechanical or quartz and to top it off, percentage of value between the case, band and movement. I told her good grief, I'm NOT a watchmaker, how the hell should I know what the percentage of value of the components are? I guessed 40/40/20 for movement, case and band.

Here are the US customs rates for watch parts by breakdown:

Movement - $1.53 flat rate
Case - 4.2%
Bracelet - 9.8%

So, it behooves the shipper to mark up the movement to save on customs charges. Not sure of the legality of it though.

That's odd. FedEx should not be asking you...they should be asking me.:-s
I sent FedEx all these details today.
I guess the info hasn't got to US customs yet.
I will check it out tomorrow. My apologies guys, and thanks Peter for answering their questions.

Following are the questions FedEx requested of me today (maybe this can help should FedEx call anyone else with these questions)

1. What is the material of the CASE?
-STAINLESS STEEL

2. What is the BACK OF THE CASE* made from?
-STAINLESS STEEL

3. How is the watch POWERED?
-AUTOMATIC

4. What type of DISPLAY?
-MECHANICAL

5. How many JEWELS (if any) in movement?
-25 jewel swiss movement

6. What is the STRAP/BRACELET made of?
-STAINLESS STEEL

7. What is the value breakdown:

B. Case___________________________ 40%

I just got a call from Fedex as well asking for the same information, except they did not ask for the parts costs breakdown. They only wanted to know the materials (i.e. stainless steel) and number of jewels in the movement. When I said 25 jewels for the 2824-2, the fedex guy said "wow thats almost as many as a Rolex!" LOL! :-d:-d:-d

i thought it was funny that the guy at Fedex prefaced his conversation with me by saying "maybe i should be calling the manufacturer, but..."

no worries on this Ian. i am never going to argue with a top notch independent watch that ships out a couple days after i ordered it. besides, i love to run off at the mouth about watches anyway :-d

still some of the best customer service i have experienced

The FedEx calls are interesting, I didn't get a call from them but I did get a call from Paypal. They wanted to make sure the purchase was legit, asked what the purchase was for, and asked how it was being shipped. At least it's good to know Paypal is protecting me if someone was trying to scam my account.

Can't wait for delivery Monday morning, I'll have to make sure I bring my bracelet sizing tools to the office with me on Monday. :-d

Hi Guys,

I just sent Fedex all the tracking numbers which need to be accompanied by the watch specifications i sent them, to clear through customs.
It may be too late for some of the packages, however, i have specifically told them to call ME if they want any type of clarification for clearance.
Should they still call you, god bless their souls, could you kindly provide them with the following details over the phone or tell them to call me (they have my number).
Apologies again, i did not foresee this little problem, i guess it is my first teething problem. The watches on the other hand, should be perfect.

Here are the details again if you should require it:
1. What is the material of the CASE?
-STAINLESS STEEL

2. What is the BACK OF THE CASE* made from?
-STAINLESS STEEL

3. How is the watch POWERED?
-AUTOMATIC

4. What type of DISPLAY?
-MECHANICAL

5. How many JEWELS (if any) in movement?
-25 jewel movement.

6. What is the STRAP/BRACELET made of?
-STAINLESS STEEL

7. What is the value breakdown:
A. Movement_______________________ 40 %
B. Case___________________________ 40 %
C. Bracelet_________________________20 %
(purely an estimate based on Peter's good work)

8. What is the country of origin of the MOVEMENT?
-SWITZERLAND

Yeah, the customs delay really kind of throws a wrench into things. Planned on hanging out at home tomorrow for the delivery, but that's not going to happen now. Unfortunately, I'm going to be at work on Monday, so naturally, won't be home to sign for the package (if it comes then). Looks like it will be Tuesday or Wednesday for me at the earliest. Lame.

On a positive note however, just wanted to say thanks for posting the FedEx Q&A just in case they call tomorrow. Going to print it out and will definitely refer to it.

On my wrist right now! Beautiful watch, great design, terrific lume. I'm happy. :-)

Watch the lug screws guys. Mine were so tight I thought I might pop a vein in my brow trying to get them unscrewed without having the screwdrivers slip. Luckily managed to crack them without incident but I did take the precaution of soaking in some hot hot tap water for a few minutes to try to expand the steel a bit. Seemed to help.

Pics to follow...

Just talked to FedEx; I called them as I hadn't heard anything. The lady didn't want to take the information over the phone; said she needed to mail forms to me. I asked to speak to a supervisor, was put on hold for 10 minutes, then she came back and took the info over the phone. She then asked for my social security number. I refused to give that because I've never had to provide this to FedEx before. Now she says the package will be delayed another 3-5 days in customs before it's even released. I probably won't receive the watch until the week after next. Did anyone else have to provide their social security number to FedEx in order to get the watch released? This has honestly been a big hassle.

A very cool watch.

Agreed - excellent packaging. I am not sure if the box is a genuine Pelican, but it doesn't matter to me - boxes just sit in the closet anyways. The extra screwbar and NATO strap was a nice touch.

I guess the first step to recovery is to admit I am indeed a Fricker-head and sip-sip, that Kool-Aid sure tastes great! In all honest these are outstanding watches and I feel they are worth every penny I paid for them. If you care more about quality/construction than big brand name, they are the solution.
