Hello all,

I'm in the market for a classic-looking diver, and I was wondering if forum members might want to throw out some suggestions. Vintage would be great (I really like the look of http://rover.ebay.com/ar/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?mpt=1084151939&adtype=1&size=1x1&type=3&campid=5336121778&toolid=10001 this guy (http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?type=3&campid=5336121778&toolid=10001&mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.com%2FOmega-300-Seamaster-Automatic-Watch_W0QQitemZ170285147598QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_J ewelery_Watches_Watches_MensWatches_GL%3Fhash%3Dit em170285147598%26_trksid%3Dp3286.c0.m14%26_trkparm s%3D72%253A1205%257C66%253A2%257C65%253A12%257C39% 253A1%257C240%253A1318%257C301%253A0%257C293%253A1 %257C294%253A50), for instance), but I also like the newly discontinued 2254.50. I don't particularly like really big watches, so around 40/41mm would be my max size. I'm not wedded to Omega, but I also don't want to get a Submariner homage. Anyone have any suggestions of particular watches or brands? Would anyone recommend a Seamaster 300 like the one in the link? I would prefer to do this on the relatively cheap, although a used 2254.50 isn't out of the question.

Thanks,
Peter

I would definitely consider a SM300, like the one in the picture. Looks like most of the watch was replaced with newer parts - pretty much like a Watchco SM300. These usually sell on eBAY in the 1600-2000 range in pre-owned condition.

i've been checking out some divers lately. really leaning towards the Boschett Reef Ranger. Decent price and has a very classic look. From what i've been hearing the quality is top notch as well.

Its hard to beat the look of the classic 2254.50

Then again, the Planet Ocean draws its good looks from the original Seamaster 300's.

The 1120 powered SMP's are a great value, however those Boschetts do also look like a nice design, and an outstanding value for the money. I've toyed with the idea of getting one, but I'm at a limit with my collection and dont' have any that I want to part with just yet.
A used 42mm PO in classic black/white would be another fine choice in the Omega line if you can extend your budget.

If I understand correctly, Watchco is a company that assembles Seamaster 300s from NOS parts including an authentic movement? Am I right about that?

Yes.

A few very knowledgable members have bought from Watchco. A really great watch with a bulletproof in-house Omega movement.

If you contact our Favourite AD I expect he could get you a good deal on a 2254.50 which is also a great looking watch, is very comfortable and IMHO great value for money

Yes. I believe Watchco is/was owned by the same entity that is an authorized Omega parts distributor. IMO, a great value.

Here is mine:
