I'm wondering what the best way is to open the caseback on my Aerospace. No other reason than to see it, and put it right back on. Any suggestions...or is this something that I should just leave to the pros? I'm just too curious, and it'll get the best of me if I don't ask how to do it properly...

Hi,

You are in danger of doing yourself or the watch an injury. If you haven't opened press fit case backs you must practice on less expensive watches!! The backs are under considerable pressure which you must overcome by inserting a special bladed knife into the slot you photographed and lever off the back with a twisting motion using the case as part of the leverage. Its tricky and not for a first timer to do without the prospect of as I said doing damage to oneself or the case or both in the same instant.

Then there is the problem of re-seating the back which requires the use of a case press similar to this...

Thanks Snap...I'll forget about it then...I'm gonna send it to BUSA sometime after the first of the year anyway for an overhaul.

the older models tend to be easier to open and close, possibly because of wear. there will be a slight gap in the edge of the caseback by one of the lugs, the top right IIRC. this is where the tool is inserted and the back is levered off against the lug. getting the back on can be harder than getting it off. candidly, there is not much to see. a circuit board, a battery and the odd component. the aerospace is at least blessed with a battery that stays in place as the caseback is removed/replaced. be aware that static can damage quartz movements too. it is best not to physically touch anything in the circuit board other than the battery if it needs changing.
