i know this is the omega forum...but my patience is running thin on my search for a 2254.50.....plenty of fine examples but i'm a bit tight and trying to spend 1000 for one....I know I know....plenty for 1200 but I want to get a better deal...don't shoot me for that!
In the meantime...I have been eyeballing this watch...

Any thoughts on quality?
Thanks in advance and again I apologize for the diversion..but if I go to the oris forum...i know what answer i will get.

i doubt you'll have any issues with an Oris diver. a mate of mine has one like that and hasn't had any problems with it at all. solid build, quite large but doesn't wear like a wall clock either
i'd buy one, but thats money i'd put towards my next Omega ;-)

When you say you're a bit tight, do you mean tight on money , or tight with money ;-)
If the former, then I'd say save the extra couple hundred and get the one you really want, if the latter, then I'd say try to loosen up, and get the one you really want.:-! Nothing wrong with the Oris, but I think the SMP will be one that will still have great appeal many years down the road.

When it's something that you're going to spend so much money on and wear everyday, I'd stretch and get the Omega that you really want.
Nothing wrong with Oris, but keep in mind that though that particular one has an integrated bracelet - you couldn't ever change it out for anything else, unless you bought the one rubber strap Oris makes for it separately (and even then that's only 2 options). Handsome watch otherwise, I came very close to buying one just like this not too long ago:

The Oris has a a stock ETA 2824 movement. While it is a perfectly sturdy movement which is capable of good accuracy, it is also available in far far cheaper watches. With Oris you are paying a huge premium for a mid range name. As an exercise, go and look at the prices of a ten or even twenty year old Oris watches...
Frankly, if you are considering getting an Oris I would steer you towards some of the small scale companies such as Timefactors:
http://www.timefactors.com/
(note that the PRS53 is a lovely little watch with a 2824 and costs £150)
or MKII:
http://www.mkiiwatches.com/
(The vantage is lovely!)
who are making far better quality and more interesting watches, using higher quality versions of the 2824 (they come in five levels of quality) for far less money.
You might also consider some of the mid level Seiko or even just get a $50 Alpha homage while you wait for the watch you really want:

(actually, I genuinely recommend the Alpha Explorer I homage. Mine has wormed its way up from extreme beater status to irregular wear as it really is quite a nice watch and keeps time far too well for a watch that cost me less than a cheap strap.!)

However, you really will never regret the Omega. If you buy the Oris, all it will do is daily remind you that you didn't get what you really wanted...

Good advice, Matt. |>
And I too like the Exp I Alpha. Very simple and yet elegant just like the real one and for 1/100th of the cost.

I owned a Oris TT1 diver in titanium and even though it's quite a nice watch it does not compare to Omega.. I remember the bracelet annoyed me the most, it's a bit flimsy if you are used to Omega SS bracelets..
So my advise is the same as most in this thread, save up a while longer and get the Seamaster :-!

The Oris is a very good watch. Oris is one of the best values for the money among Swiss made mechanical watches. I own a SMP 300 Chrono and the Oris Small Seconds Diver. The finish of the Oris is every bit as good as the Omega, and the braclet I like better than my Omega. I think the movement is better with Omega. Save for the Omega if that is what you want but you would not be disappointed with the Oris diver.
OK, now you can jump down my throat.:-)

If the omega is what you are looking for and you settle for the Oris because thats what you can afford, in 6 months you will kick yourself for not getting what you wanted in the first place....Than you will sell the Oris and buy the omega with 6 months of wasted wrist time.
Just my 2 cents.

Figured these were the answers I would get...sorta like asking your wife a question, knowing the answer, and realizing you were right all along...
I am tight w/ my money...money isn't really tight....I'm the kind of guy that waits for the best deal on milk at the store b4 stocking up on it...
I realize 1200 is probably a great price on the watch I'm looking for...the problem is it isn't really enough of a savings off of new to make me pull the trigger...
If I found one for a grand I'd be all over it....

thanks guys

Tony,
I really think you will regret it if you buy anything other than the 2254.50. They are wonderful watches and you will enjoy it for years to come. Go ahead and enjoy! Cheers, Bill P.

If you are patient you will find the watch you want for around a grand. Check other watch forums that will remain nameless, thats what I did and I got a great deal on my Omega.

I have an Oris TT1. I just received my PO and let me tell you the OMEGA is awesome. I love the Oris, built tough and looks nice, but the OMEGA is something else. I would save a few hundred and go with the OMEGA. I would sell my entire collection for another Omega. Except my PO :)......
