View Full Version : Another trip to the local AD

My wife and I went to the local AD to try on some watches. I have been just drooling over the 3570.50. When I got there and tried it on, I was a bit dismayed to find that the lugs and the absolute edge of my wrist line up. The lugs don't stick out, but they are right at the edge. My wrist measures 6 1/8" as I type this. I tried on a Speedy Day-Date and while it fit better width wise, it felt like it stood up quite a bit more off my wrist.

I guess I am just venting, because I had really been set on the Speedmaster Pro as the one I wanted. Now after seeing it on my wrist, I'm just not sure I can pull it off.

My advice is to be sure that what you buy is comfortable. Since you have a small wrist have you considered a mid-size? The full size Omega sport watches are very heavy and get moreso as the day goes on.

I have a 7 1/2" wrist and at the end of the day I know I have worn a heavy watch when I wear my Omegas, especially my Seamaster Pro. My Speedmaster Pro "wears smaller and lighter" than the Seamaster. Fr. John told me this would be the case and he is right. Cheers, Bill P.

You know, I have thought about the reduced. The problem is it isn't THE moon watch. I have been fairly hung up on getting the speedy pro because of the history behind it. I'd like to get a watch with a great history. The reduced, day-date, etc just don't have that.

Try the Speedy on a strap. It will wear smaller than on the bracelet.

I have 6.25" wrists and the Speedy does just edge over slightly but I can pull it off and have gotten used to wearing larger watches. Your wrists are a little smaller and it may be just too large for you. Try the PO. I have both and the lugs are a little shorter on the PO and it wears better on my wrist, you should have no problem with it. Its not the speedy pro, but its a fine watch also.

+1

I wear my PO 45.5 on strap. Much lower profile on my 6.5 wrist.

The 3570.50 is the moon watch. I would do it if I were you. You will get used to it and like it.:-! If not, you can flip it.

As well, it might be a good idea to buy one used. Many fine examples out there, and if you flip it, you will not lose much if any.

Good luck!

I think I might look at getting a used speedy from one of the good eBay sellers and putting it on a strap. What straps do you all like to put on a speedy?

46and2 asked about straps. Fr. John put me on to the Hirsch Leonardo Medici leather strap available from Kenny at www.fredawatchstraps.com (http://www.fredawatchstraps.com).

The speedy pro looks great with either the black leather or the dark brown leather strap. The nice thing about the Medici in that it has a curved end which snugs up to the case of the watch. You would need the 20mm strap. Kenny also has some nice deployant clasps. Cheers, Bill P.

I am blessed(?) with unusual wrist that is 7 3/4 inches in circumference but rather than being flat, it is round so larger watches like the PO models do not fit well.

This was my concern when I was considering my first Speedy Pro but someone pointed out that the lugs were designed so as to allow the bracelet to "drape" over even the smallest wrist. Plus, the thin black bezel makes the Speedy Pro "wear smaller" than 42mm.

I was advised to buy a pre-owned Speedy Pro and wear it for a few weeks. If I didn't like it, I could easily flip it and get my money my money back. The rest is history. I've owned a couple of dozen Speedy Pros and have now settled in with my 40+ year old cal. 321. It is the most comfortable watch I own.

But it's your wrist and your money.

BTW, I've never owned a new Speedy Pro. Let someone else take the depreciation hit and pay the sales tax.

Try the Speedy on a strap. It will wear smaller than on the bracelet.

what he said. i have insanely skinny wrists too and this works out fine for me. also try it with a zulu or nato strap. they tend to bring it in a bit more, AND make you look tough.

Well thank you all for your advice. I have decided to buy a used 3570.50. So now the search for a used one begins!

Check the sales corners and the listings of our preferred sellers on eBay:

jmryshi
sabashioyakiz1
kaberui

They usually have nice watches and stand behind them. My first Speedy Pro came from Jungo (jmryshi) back when his feedback score was less than 100. Several on the forum have bought from these guys.

This recommendation is based on past experience and I cannot warrant what will happen in the future so the doctrine of caveat emptor (buyer beware) still applies.

I had the same problem. Try on the Speedmaster Reduced.

The current model is the 3539.50. It has the sapphire crystal and looks the closest to the pro.

The sub dials are much darker when you actually see the watch.

If you want to save some money get yourself the 3510.50. It has the hesalite crystal. Its not as close looking to the Pro as the one above, especially with the numbers on the dial. The bracelet on this one also isn't as good as on the one above.

I settled for the 3510.50. You can pick them up for under $1000 USD from any trusted ebay sellers in mint condition.

I lost an auction today from kaberui. It ended up going for $1825 with box, papers, etc. Oh well, on to the next one! I have all 3 of their eBay pages bookmarked. ;)

If you are buying it to wear a lot and are concerned about how it looks, then you are concerned about how it looks ;-)

Just like clothes, watches need to be tried on. It can look good in a catalog or website but not work for you. The opposite is also true.

That said, I can think of 100 good reasons to get a moon watch even if it isn't the perfect looker on you.

The speedy is a fantastic watch. I agree there are hundreds of good reasons why you should buy one :P. The best thing is that it will never look bad with any clothing you wear out with it. Well thats what i think :-!.
