Hi all,
New guy here, though I've been lurking for a while and reading your informative posts.
I'm succombing to the lures of a new Super Ocean. I see on the Breitling website that the interhorn width is 20/18mm. I'm confused. Which is it 20mm or 18mm. I seek your wisdom.
Here is where I'm going with this, I have a '95 vintage Pluton that came with a 20mm ProI bracelet but I usually wear it on a strap. So I thought to get the SO on rubber and maybe later put on the bracelet that I already have.
Will it work? Thoughts? Advice?
Thanks,
Number6

It would be 20mm at the end where the strap attaches to the case and 18mm where the buckle attaches to the strap.

Hello Number6,
the first number of the quoted interhorn width is the strap width (in mm) at the case, the second number is the strap width at the buckle.
End pieces for Plutons may have been slightly different from end pieces required for Superoceans. Even if a bracelet goes under the same name and has the same interhorn width at the case end it still could mean that end pieces may have subtle differences.
If your authorized dealer has a Breitling Dealer Catalogue, he may find information regarding the standard Superocean bracelet and required end pieces there. Compare this with the number engraved on the end piece of your existing bracelet. Chances are numbers will be different.
You could still try to fit it and see how it matches the case. It is not an option to order new end pieces and have them fitted to your existing bracelet, as only the first links at the clasp have screws to remove or insert
links.
Please keep also in mind that spring bars used to attach bracelets differ slightly from spring bars used to attach straps. If you use a strap spring bar to attach a bracelet, you will find it difficult later to remove the bracelet. I hope the sales staff in your watch dealer is aware of that, as not everybody is.
Goood luck.

Hello Number6,
Todd made short work of your first question but the second on is a bit tricky.
While the interhorn width (the dimention at the head) may be 20mm the other measurements may well be out by quite a bit. Like the curve of the end piece in relation to the case wall(some SO cases are flat), case wall to pin hole for the spring bar, curve of the horns, and, well, generall all over fit of the end piece. If you have a look at the articles section you will find two well illustrated articles on the watches we are discussing and you will be able to make the comparison for yourself.
My suggestion is take the bracelet with you to your AD and see if you can actually fit the two together. It only takes a few seconds to work it out. Then make your choice accordingly. We always suggest you buy the watch on a bracelet and add other bands later. Good luck.

Wow!
Thanks for the quick responses and the info.
The ProII bracelet is a thing of beauty but for most of the situations of my life it feels a bit too shiny. That is the only reason I was thinking of rubber.
Not sure yet what I'll do but you guys have helped a lot!
Thanks,
