Hi all -

I've been lurking here for a few days now, long time G fan and long time DW6900 (I'm on my second one :) ) and G100 wearer. I also just ordered a DW6600, but it's not arrived yet.

Anywho, I after looking over the vaious new solar atomic models for a while now, I finally settled on a GW9000 Mudman last week. I wasn't crazy about the look of the watch at first as I prefer the styling of the DW6600/6900 watches as compared to the GW9000's, but I also felt the G9000 Mudman looked to much like a kid's watch with those big red buttons on it (maybe like a toy Transformer or something like that? :) Appoliges to G9000 owners and fans in advance :) ).

Anyway like I said, the GW9000 Mudman was not my first choice, but it had everything I needed that the 6600 and 6900 had, plus it was solar and atomic like I wanted. As looked at it more and more and started to realize a lot of the other cool features it had, I was hooked and could get over the styling and colors of it.

The COOLEST thing I have found about this watch so far ? It will probablly seem pretty stupid to most, considering all the other really neat things this G does, has got be the "auto EL" light feature. For those not familar with it what it does is once turned on it automaticly turns on the EL back light when the watch is rotated 40 degrees from a level position (like at 90 degrees on your wrist. It's as simple as making the motion as having your arm in front of you level, with your palm parallel to the ground. Now rotate your wrist as if you were looking at your watch to see what time it is, and the EL light comes on by it's self w/o having to push the button! :) May sound silly to be so excited over such a simple feature, but as much as I used the EL on my two 6900s (which is partially what keeps killing the batteries in them so quick :), this is a nice addition in my eyes.

It will NOT do this in direct light, so it either needs to be dark or at least dim. I've been able to get it to work in my bedroom with the light of just one dim nightstand lamp on, and still have it work.

All together a pretty great watch as all Gs are, and again, it's features have outsold me on it's appreance. I'm thinking about taking off some of the lettering coloration I don't like on it and redoing them more in the them of the 6600/6900 that I am so fond of.

Thanks :),

Eric

PS - For those complaining about the difficulty in pushing the side buttons on the GW9000 Mudman, just use the tip of your fingernail to push it in with, and you will find that works better and easier than trying to use your fingertip. At least that's what works better for me so far, and I don't want to boil mine in water for 20 min to "loosen up" the rubber button covers, as so as not to possibly weaken their thickness or sealing properties.
