I sense there's a fair amount of new folks here for the Kingston watch and you may have missed this.... I'm not a shrill for Camfan but I think his Bond Nato strap will be perfect for the Kingston. Here's the color layout.
http://corvuswatch.com/images/band-18mm-g.jpg
There's more information here (http://corvuswatch.com/index.asp?page=watchbands).
My interest is simple. If Bill elects not to include the diver's extension, the NATO will be important to me. The Kingston will be my "play" watch and I do wear a drysuit for kayaking that I'll need to fit it over.
I guess my other option is to request a Vantage band - looks like it has the extension. That's another option I suppose. :thanks

Yes, or 18mm if you want to go for the authentic "bond look" as in the movie. ;-)

really only a 2mm gap?

gap. 16 mm would replicate the look but I think you will be happier with 20 or 18 mm.

Well the "gap" might be authentic but to me doesn't look good.. I would opt for the the correct size.. The look on the Kingston will be classic!

I'm not taking sides here, but there have been a number of interesting discussions about the actual colours of the Bond strap (along with the actual Submariner model(s) Connery was wearing in the early movies). Well, I find them interesting . . .
Some people see red/orange stripes on the watch band in Goldfinger, but this is more likely on the indoor shots. Some people see black and olive. . . The outdoor shots seem to lead to accounts of the more traditionally accepted black n' grey stripes.
I guess it's a case of, "Can you look at this ink blot and tell me what you see?"
Although if you want to be really authentic, you should stick the Kingston on a brown leather strap, as in Dr. No. . .

I have noticed this "question" come up several times, outside of this forum as well as with regards to the Kingston. Frankly, I'm so horribly colorblind that it would be the one detail which makes precious little difference to me.
Others - however - clearly care, so I was just wondering: Sean Connery IS alive and well, and does still have a publicist who handle corrrespondence. I believe THE original watch may even be owned still by the Broccoli family. Has anybody tries to contact either party with a short letter to see if THEY have an opinion on the color? Just wondering

Now that just sounds too simple and easy, and also fraught with long term negative implications: what would we argue and theorize about on watch forums if they DID provide a definitive answer? Sort of like if there were a definitive, DNA based proof of who Jack the Ripper was. All that fun of speculation, argument, books and TV specials, all over with and gone, all irrelevant.
Just like the Jaws watch, maybe it's something we have more fun NOT knowing for sure.;-)
PS: I might get a Camfam Bond NATO for my Kingston, but if I go that route I'll probably also get a leather strap for the other movie look, and probably one of the more traditional skunk stripe Bond NATOs as well - just to cover all the bases.

Hi! The best shot of the band is actually from Thunderball, where Bond checks his watch in bright sunlight. It is a tight close-up of the watch. I suggest you take a look at this scene on Blu-Ray while watching a large 1080 HD TV. The red is very clearly seen, and I think you will be quite convinced. Also, the new Blu-Ray Discs of the Bond movies are awesome!
Thanks,

at the ravine wearing only a pair of ,swim trunks,he looks at his wrist , tight shot of the rolex on nato strap.
He waits and knocks out one of Largo's divers and puts on his wet suit.
Bond swims to the Disco Volante, Bond looks at his wrist to check the time, tight shot again and it's his Brietling gieiger counter watch with a steel bracelet.
Can Q make a Rolex that converts to a Brietling?
Check out the movie.

they must have film the ravine scene with the rolex, forgot which watch and
filmed the boat scene with the Brietling. Why would Bond carry 2 watches? They figured no none would notice,
except us watch nuts. o|

Film crews at least used to always include a person in charge of "continuity", to avoid just those sorts of mistakes. My guess is that the crew of Thunderball completely missed the gaffe, or at least didn't see it until it was too late to fix without excessive cost.
Either that, or possibly Q actually gave Bond one of those Transformer watches; could be handy to have a secret weapon like that, a watch that turns into a killer robot, no? :-d

Given the Kingston and folks like myself that will put their Milsub LRRP's on Nato's figured I'd share some comparative pics of the Corvus with two other popular Nato's, Maratac's and Timefactor's, all shown are 22mm and the Martac is always top or left in the picks since both it and the TF are black. All are new, unworn product.

Some general observations:
Maratac is the longest overal and the strap feels of the heaviest gauge of the three.
Corvus has the nearest holes i.e. can size the smallest of all three w/o making holes, the hardware is polished, the buckle style differntly than the other two, but truly is gorgeous, material feels marginally the lightest of gauge of the three. The hole spacing on the Corvus is the widest of all for fitment/adjustability.
Timefactors is a lighter gauge than the maratac and perhaps marginally heavier than the Corvus.
Looking forward to putting each through it's paces on my LRRP around town and out in the Atlantic. Not to mention, the 18MM RAF I got from Corvus, looking forward to seeing how it wears w/ the Kingston.

Sean

Does the Corvus strap hold a heavier watch on wrist well? Since it's fabric is thinner??? I like the Maratac woven nylon as it's beefy & grippy....holds a heavier watch better. I got a black NATO w/ a custom Blackwater...the fabric's thinner...I don't use it on BW, but on a smaller & lighter weight watch. I have a blk, Maratac NATO on BW. I ordered a Corvus strap...hopefully it'll be ok....I wonder what his policy is on returns?

I just sold my JSAR so I don't have any beefy 22mm watches to try them on until my LRRP gets here. Comparatively, I wouldn't classify the BW as a 'big watch' at least in a sense of weight or overal height. I would expect taller and heavier watches to be able to exert more torsional force on a strap compared to lighter, lower profile ones.
In my shamefully massive collection of straps, the thinnest I have Maratac's Mil Series straps, and I wore a TSAR on one w/o incident, a pretty tall watch, and even had one for the JSAR but I didn't like how it looked contrasting the massive bulk of the lugs and tall bezel to the very thin strap, but it would hold the watch securely.

I put that un-labeled, lighter-than-Maratac's-NATO, NATO strap I got w/ my custom BW(strap 20mm) on a Seiko dive watch...the quartz cousin to the SKX031, and it's not a super beefy & heavy watch...didn't work for me...just not wild about it's type of fabric! Plus it's short in length(&I don't have big wrists) the end's not long enough to stick under the bars & sticks out:-s....I put it on a smaller, 36mm lighter watch, an Expl. I looking one...it's ok there.

The Corvus I ordered is the RAF style, 22mm going on a Seiko SKX007, a bit bulkier than BW...will find out next week!!!!???!!

Yeh, the Seiko's got a bit of height, will be curious to see what you think. Btw, :-! on the applied markers on that Orient Star, quite classy looking.

I like Zulu straps much better than NATO, but they're not as accurate historically.
I have a 24mm Zulu for my Eco-Zilla. They pair with some custom Walter hardware.

I got a hold of Mike of Phoenix straps and was able to order a grey 16mm RAF and a 22mm grey G10/Nato.
I'll try the Nato on my LRRP Milsub and even though the 16mm isn't a bond print, it is the right understrap dimension and I believe clearance divers were issued grey, so a bit of a compromise. Must laugh, I have 5 straps for my kingston already, in addition to the bracelet. LOL.
Pic to follow of the Milsub on the Corvus and the Phoenix once I get my LRRP...which I also have several straps for...go figure. LOL.

Aloha,
Michael Stewart of Wales is Phoenix Straps, and has for years been a supplier to the British Ministry of Defence. His stuff is the real thing, of very high quality. My favorite G10/NATO strap is his braided nylon G10; always a perfect fit, since there are no strap holes -- you just stick the buckle tang in where you want!
As someone posted on one of the other forums, it's likely if Michael ever stops making G10's there will be no other manufacturer outside of Asia...
