Just back from the Spa. Thorough cleaning and repair of the Chrono function, all dings removed and case given brushed finish, and a NOS Zodiac band and clasp put on.

I think that is a Valjoux 7734. Nice watch with a nice movement. The improvements in the face and case are apparent. Nice job!

Eeb, what is the difference between the 7731 and 7734? Someone else said 7731 but I couldn't really tell.

I found this. 1st one is a 7734 and second is my movement. Not the same to my eyes?

The 7731 doesn't have a date feature.

The basic movement was the Venus 188 which was adopted by Valjoux after their take over of Venus to become the Valjoux 7730. The 7731 is the same but has a movable stud holder. The 7733 is structurally rather changed - the lovely shaped chrono bridge is gone and you have that crude looking "V" instead. The 7734 has a date feature added and the 7736 has a date and a 12 hour counter. You also have the specialized 7737 which has a backward counter for regatta chronos.

All the info from Ranfft's pink pages, e.g.:
