View Full Version : Diving roots reason for bezel design of 2254.50?

Just wondering why on the 2254.50, the first 15 tickmarks on the bezel are lines, and the rest are dots....also, why is there no number 10 printed on the bezel? I'm guessing this has to do with its diving roots, but since I'm not a diver, I don't know what the significance is.

I think you will find that the first 10-20 minutes on many dive watches are designed to be different and stand out. Another approach that is taken is to have a different color for the first 20 minutes, as can be seen on the Seiko in the picture below.

Its probably mostly a design issue, but might have also been done for practical reasons. One possibility relates to non-commercial dives, there are a few saftey stops that last for a only number of minutes each, depending on various factors. I know most divers today use a computer or a timer, but if done manually, IMO, its easier to time shorter intervals when each minute is marked on the bezel.

And then again I could be wrong..
