I remember the article that watch time wrote about a chronomat versus the speedy pro. And according to watchtime, the chronomat movement (a basic engraved 7750) was of better quality than a lemania 1873. It showed me how serious this so called professionnal horology magazine was and that often people who write those articles are biased. What watchtime didn't mention is that one of the most trusted divers is the sea dweller with a solid background and more than trusted movement the 3135 since 1988.

Georges, rather than biased, maybe the guys writing for Watchtime are simply more educated about such matters than us WIS. I have always understood ('cause I follow this forum) that the Lemania is a superior mvmnt to the 7750 (more rugged, hence military useage) but I aint a watchmaker, presumably the guy who wrote the article for Watchtime is & knows more than us? Just my 2CW

Hi Simon

The guy who wrote the article favored the breitling because it was more accurate on the test machine, but every 5 years the 7750 needs to be serviced and it is a nightmare to service. I have seen horrors written in watchtime so I don't think they are more educated than WISes. They would also say that 33xx is a great despite all the failures it encountered and that it still encounters. A lemania movement wether its is 1873, a 1340, a 5100, a 5012, a 2320 or a 2620 is always better made and more accurate than any valjoux, valjoux and lemania never played in the same ground and the built quality is also very different.
People who write articles are somewhat biased.
People who know movement manufactures know what is Lemania and how it is ranked as compared to Valjoux, thing Watchtime didn't pay attention to.

Thanks Georges - I was of course just posing the question. If it was just a matter of accuracy then what's a second here or there!

'Rugged reliability' with 'reasonable accuracy' is what I prefer & from all I have read, the Lemania must win over the Valjoux.

My mate was a Swiss watchmaker & for him the all important criteria was 'thickness' or should I say 'slimness'. Most half decent mvmnts can be adjusted by a good watchmaker to well within COSC standards - but what he valued was doing it in the thinnest possible way. For me that is OK for a dressy watch, but chronographs are fgenerally used or sports watches, and therefore the criteria more important to me must be 'reliability'. That's why I'd generally chose a Lemania over an ETA given the choice. That said, I do have the 7750 in my Navitimer!

cheers

Thanks for the link. This made me aware -again- that the PO will be my next purchase.

Cheers,
Oz.
