Swiss pocket watch serial numbers

Hello All,

Has anyone witnessed the serial number of a Swiss pocket watch correlating to date it was made?

For instance my watch has #89309 and documents show the maker's mark (in my case J.A.G.V. for J.A. Gindrat-Vuille) was registered in 1895.

Could I then assume my watch was made in 1889 going by the European date standard? Possibly my watch was the 309th watch made that year?

Thoughts and opinions please.

Never seen that at all, not at least in the older stuff. A serial number was just that.
Most of the time the serial number of a Swiss watch is meaningless, unless it is a fairly high end model.
