Have you ever seen one of these in your day? Flew this one to Temple, TX last week to retire it. Thursday, 50 MPH winds so the expression on my face is quite "priceless."

Thanks for the Huey shot. :thanks Yes, I not only saw a whole lot of that ubiquitous thumper in my day, I had the pleasure (?) of a short hop in one as well. And yes, the pained expression on your face makes perfect sense if you had to drive that thing around in a 40+ knot wind. :-x :-| In the mid to late 90's we sometimes had the privilege of having a Huey crew work with us when we were flying our CAF (Confederate Air Force, now Commemorative Air Force to be politically correct.) "Viet Nam Warbird Tribute" airshow routine. These guys were out of Beaumont IIRC and had acquired and restored one (I think it was a UH-1B.) into pretty good shape. They maintained its airworthiness but I can't recall in what category it was certified, possibly restricted. We flew our standard COIN/FAC demo and pulled off as they hit the LZ to drop troops or medevac. The Huey was a nice added feature to the tribute. As you might expect, we used period music (Rolling Stones - "Gimme Shelter", Sympathy For The Devil", "Jumping Jack Flash" and ending with "As Tears Go By") which combined with the loosely scripted announcer narration was very effective in recreating a snapshot of the history of an unpopular conflict. Appreciative comments from fellow vets of that era made it all worthwhile, I assure you... ;-) Fly safe. ;-) |>
Best,
Ron
