Hello...new to the forum, but longtime Omega owner. I picked up a SMPC last month and changed the date for the first time this morning since getting the watch. Not thinking, I changed it at 6:30am...did I do any damage? Ask because with my Breitling, I am not supposed to change the date until after 8am (I think).

Also, is the slight resistance when screwing the crown back in normal?

Hello there and welcome to the forum!
First of all, Seamaster Professional... Coolness? I dunno where "C" did come from...

Anyhow, I do not think you have done any damage to your watch.
I think with Omega they usually say from 10PM to 2AM or something like that, therefor the date changing mechanism is most likely (say 99.99%) disengaged at the time mentioned. BTW, don't change the date until 8AM with Breitling? That's one heck of slow date change if you ask me... taking all night long like that... but if that's the case, you can't change the date from 4PM until 8AM or something like that? Sounds just off... Way off in fact.

You should feel the resistance, it's the gasket.

Thanks for the response and peace of mind. The C stands for Chrono...it's the 300M Chrono.

Breitling has some crazy restriction of 10pm through at least 6am...I always went by 8am to be safe since I have heard of Navimeters getting really screwed up because of this. Could just be my AD scaring me.

Thanks again.

Oh, Of course the chrono!!!
For some odd reasons I never associate Seamaster line with chrono function, ever...
In my mind chroro = Speedmaster. Sorry about that.

I'm here hoping that some of the more tech savvy PPL than me chipping in on the date issue... I'm quite confident in the info I stated, but no harm done in double checking.

BTW 10pm through at least 6am huh? That's just waaaay too insane in my book.
I mean Breitlings are for the pilots (most intended target anyway) and they tend to fly over different timezones, and not be able to change date freely sounds just... odd.

I hope I clarified the subject of the crown screwing?

I could be way off on the date issue with the Ling...I thought I read it in the manual, but quite honestly the manual could read a narrow window and I expanded it in my mind. :-p

On the gasket issue. Very clear. It does make some noise and felt somewhat mechanical (I'd say there is 20% of resistance). I figured it was okay and par for the course, but wanted to make sure.

Oi, hold it right there...

Are we talking about screwing in the crown or winding the mainspring manually here?
Does the crown stop turning after a while (around 2 turns) or keeps on turning?

It takes about 3.5 (clocwise) turns to return the crown from the winding/adjustment point to be secured back into place and it stops due to being tight.

Slight resistance is totally normal, and you did no damage to your SMP.

I'm right there with Father Time on the whole 8am deal. I don't care what brand it is, i'm not aware of any movement that takes that long to change dates! I'd say 3am onward you should be fine.

P.S> on the subject... I am a new PO owner, and was having a fit this morning, with my date change... All my other watches; turn the crown clockwise to advance the date, but the PO turns counter clockwise... I was cursing my watch for about 1 minute, till i figured it out... :-d

OK, I guess we are on the same page then :)
Enjoy your watch!

Now I think I would like to see the watch itself :)

All my other watches; turn the crown clockwise to advance the date, but the PO turns counter clockwise...

Haha, same here! Seems like it's just like that even on Bond SMP!
