Hello everybody,

I'm trying to make a decision as to what I should buy for my first automatic watch.

I was originally drawn to the Seiko divers based on their value alone, then some Hamilton's started to catch my eye on the basis of their clean military styling, and the brand's Lancaster, Pennsylvania roots where I live nearby.

After reviewing all the Hamilton options online I keyed in on this particular model the 42mm Field Auto in a SS bracelet:

Today at lunch I ventured to a Tourneau shop to see what they had. Compared to the available pricing I've seen online I was surprised to see everything listed at full MSRP. They did not have the watch I was looking for but another caught my eye, the King Scuba and I am confused....to say the least:

Perhaps if i were able to examine both It would be an easier decision to make.

Your thoughts and (pictures!) would be much appreciated;

Too tough for me to be much help... I know that I thought I would like the diver better. but I lean toward that first one... The Khaki field.

As much as I love that red and black strap and that divers look. Im not a big fan of diver style watches that are only 100M WR. And IMHO, I am not sure I am crazy about the day indicator.

Typically I like the busier watches... but that 42mm field watch just looks classic and cool!

I'm with Jeff. The King Scuba is a sharp and sporty looking diver but the Field Auto gets my vote. IMO it's a classier looking watch and it'd look great on various straps too, which makes it more versatile. Go get that one! :-!

I actually like the day complication on top. It's kind of a Hamilton thing, though I prefer the Khaki King non scuba since it's cleaner. It looks more like the field but with the day date on top. The only problem with it is it's only 50m water resistant. Oh well, you can't have everything. I borrowed the pic from the web.

Is it a Hamilton thing or a Rolex thing?

I think Hamilton is the only company I've seen put both the day and date on top. But I could be wrong.

While both look nice, I agree with the previous comments and prefer the first one myself.

You might be right about the day and date... but whenever I see the day like that I think Rolex...

Just they way MY head works... YMMV.

Wow, as I read this thread I was thinking the exact same thing and then I got to your post. I really like the day/date at the top together like on the Khaki King. Makes it NOT look like the Rolex Day-Date. But I do like the rest of the styling on the Scuba model even though without the stitched strap and the day complication, it seems somewhat derivative (but so many divers are these days). Then again, I like the Khaki Field styling and always have... so I don't know.

Get both.

Wow. That Rolex is really ugly. I'd rather wear the Hamilton.

I think I prefer the King non-Scuba as well (ie. neither of the ones you asked about :) ). I really like the big-day models with applied numerals, but I don't like the size of the 3 and 9. That said, I do like that the date is separated on the Scuba vs. non-scuba.

That said, I just got this in the mail today, which I love the look of. I can't wait to get home to see it in person. (Apologies in advance for non-Hammy pic):

I'm afraid I'm not much help in helping you choose, either! I like them both.

(Nice watch, Shane!)

Is this a Magellano Automatic Big Day ?
How much was it?
