I've bought a Top Gun at the end of february 09 and I really haven't use it much. After the initial 2 weeks of on and off routine,it has been sitting idle in the safe since then. Yes I give it a wind every 2/3 weeks ,but I still wonder if manual wind and long time sitting idle may do any damage to the 7750...
I've been advised to just give it 3/5 winds until the second's hand moves and then shake it a bit to have it "naturally " charged.
Any suggestion ? I put this watch on the market,so I wouldn't like that the new eventual owner to find bad surprises,it is an amazing watch and only loses half second per day.

Can't really help you with your question but it hurts me to hear that your Top Gun hasn't seen much wrist time. Definitely an amazing watch.

I don't think any damage would be done...
Why don't you wear this great watch?

:-s "Naturally charged", that's one I haven't heard before. No, you don't
shake it, wind fully by hand, about 30-40 turns. Run chrono about five
minutes a month.

Any reason why you need to keep running watch intermittently as well as run the chrono a certain amount of time per month? I'm assuming its for lubrication purposes?

i am a huge fan of iwc, but definitely not a fan of the top gun. i would love if, if they made one exactly like it, but without the top gun logo on the side or back. it's a bit cheesy to say the very least. it definitely cheapens the look and the iwc brand, in my opinion. so, i guess i could understand it sitting in the safe. but, of course i personally, would never buy one, in the first place. i'm going to assume you like it, or you wouldn't have purchased it in the first place. so, i have to ask, why don't you wear it much?

Actually IWC came out with a non Top Gun version of the black ceramic case before the Top Gun. No Top Gun engraving and no red fighter jet like stuff in the dial.
I don't wear it much because I don't like to wear watches worth more than 5000 Euro with a so called prestigious name on them.I just don't feel safe in my everyday activities.Since I'm 100% sure I'm not going to use it anymore, why not put it on the market and make some money back?
I've already replaced it with a Sinn 656 and Longines Legend Diver and I'm perfectly happy with those in my everyday life. My 2 Rolexes are gone already, the Top Gun is next in line. I'm losing quite bit of money on it but at least.....get out of my way.....:rodekaart.
Fantastic watch if you ask me anyway, but I have to say the the ugly 7750 too played a pivotal role in this decision.Really, such a disgusting movement in such a stunning watch....o| It's no more IWC for me.

How did the aesthetics of the 7750 throw you off? Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the Top Gun did not have a clear caseback, so how often are you seeing the movement...?

It's not the aesthetics that bothered me,although I know it is utterly ugly,it was it's sound and it's wobble......

It is a highly modified movement and worth taking a look at the amount of work that they do; not just on the movement, but on the whole watch as well: http://forums.watchuseek.com/showthread.php?t=256887

Face it my friend,is like having a BMW with a V6 Ford engine. V6 as you like it,but still a Ford. The 7750 sucks, end of story.

That is a bad analogy, a Ford engine sucks and aren't reliable. If the Ford V6 engine were more reliable and gives out more power, I wouldn't mind having it on my BMW. The same way the Lotus has a Toyota Celica engine. The same way an Audi A3, A4 and TT has a VW engine. Or the Acura TSX in the U.S. is a Honda Accord in Europe. Or Toyota engines being modified for Lexus'. It doesn't, or shouldn't take away from the car because it it is reliable, it performs well for what it is needed for, it lasts long and quality is there.
I don't really see what's wrong with it if it works fine. I mean sure, it maybe ugly, but after it has been modified with gold plating and engraving, the modified movement becomes beautiful and a lot less boring but you don't see it anyways so int he end, would the look really matter? So what if it is bulky, the watch size won't change either way, the 5001 in-house movement is bulkier and bigger but you would prefer that?
I'm just saying, people are always in awe with in-house movements and I am not saying people shouldn't be but it works well and fine so why worry? If the TopGun got an in-house movement but the price increased $5k-$7k and make it 2-3mm thicker, would that make the watch much more acceptable to your standards?

LOL. i kinda like reading your posts, gettocard.
what did the 7750 do to deserve your ruthlessness? :-d
Were you abused by it when you were a kid? i certainly hope not.
How about standard ETA movements? Did they treat you well? ;-)

Standard ETA ?? I love those !! I have a 2824 base that sound like a chainsaw and keeps sharp time and a 2824 upgraded that keeps +2 secs per day, incredibly quiet. And best of all no wobble.....:-)

Exactly, so which movement would you have preferred in a chrono watch?

Thanks, it really is a beautiful watch.
You should give it another chance and wear it for a week and if you still feel hatred for it, then let it go.
Good luck with the sale, if you were in the U.S. I might be jumping on that watch by now.

I don't think a week or two will help change his mind regarding the hatred he has for the 7750. Doesn't really make sense to me cuz that watch is a beauty and you can't even see the movement. And its unfortunate that the wobble bothers him, I enjoy some wobble now and then as it shows the watch is alive and it gives it some added character...

Everyone has an opinion and here is mine. I am the happy owner of a 3714 and have had it for a week. The 7750 movement has given me accuracy I have not found in other movements with the exception of quartz. In its first week I am plus two seconds.

RickD, thats awesome to hear! Congrats! And mine was actually running about +3 for the first few weeks then settled down to +<1 after a month. I gain about 2 seconds every 3 days. Yours should settle down and be even more accurate after some use. Pretty solid if you ask me :-!
