This is my first post on the forum, but I have been trying to decide on a watch for about two months now.
I started out wanting some sort of vintage authentic military type watch - which led me to Hamilton. The simple black dialed mechanical watches were too small and simple for my taste, but I didn't know what else was out there.
Honestly, I didn't even know Hamilton still made watches until I found one retailer by chance, which happened to be the only one in my area that carries them. (Couldn’t miss the giant signage with Harrison Ford).
I did tons of research (found this site along the way) and really liked Hamilton's newer automatic models. I ended up purchasing an X-wind online and absolutely hated it. Very interesting watch, but not for me.
As I continued by research, I kept becoming intrigued by watches with history and timeless design. The Omega Speedmaster quickly became my favorite but when I visited a local AD all I could see was a gleaming little watch with sword shaped hands and triangle markers.
Unfortunately, it was a mid-sized watch, and was told by the rep it was not in the catalog and was also a discontinued model by Omega. No other AD in the area had one and I became more curious about this watch.
I soon found out what I wanted was the Seamaster professional, models 2254.50 or 2264.50.
Don’t frown on me, but I have decided on the quartz model, a four year old watch in excellent condition with all papers, etc. available locally to me. I will be picking it up this afternoon, hopefully to add photos soon.
I appreciate the history of the automatic movements and will be hopefully adding one to my collection in the future. I would be more comfortable buying the automatic new, which seems to be rather difficult for this watch now.
Tons of great information on this site and I thank all who have provided photos and stories.
