This is my first post on the forum, but I have been trying to decide on a watch for about two months now.

I started out wanting some sort of vintage authentic military type watch - which led me to Hamilton. The simple black dialed mechanical watches were too small and simple for my taste, but I didn't know what else was out there.

Honestly, I didn't even know Hamilton still made watches until I found one retailer by chance, which happened to be the only one in my area that carries them. (Couldn’t miss the giant signage with Harrison Ford).

I did tons of research (found this site along the way) and really liked Hamilton's newer automatic models. I ended up purchasing an X-wind online and absolutely hated it. Very interesting watch, but not for me.

As I continued by research, I kept becoming intrigued by watches with history and timeless design. The Omega Speedmaster quickly became my favorite but when I visited a local AD all I could see was a gleaming little watch with sword shaped hands and triangle markers.

Unfortunately, it was a mid-sized watch, and was told by the rep it was not in the catalog and was also a discontinued model by Omega. No other AD in the area had one and I became more curious about this watch.

I soon found out what I wanted was the Seamaster professional, models 2254.50 or 2264.50.

Don’t frown on me, but I have decided on the quartz model, a four year old watch in excellent condition with all papers, etc. available locally to me. I will be picking it up this afternoon, hopefully to add photos soon.

I appreciate the history of the automatic movements and will be hopefully adding one to my collection in the future. I would be more comfortable buying the automatic new, which seems to be rather difficult for this watch now.

Tons of great information on this site and I thank all who have provided photos and stories.

Welcome and excellent choice! Best dial and hand combination and a rugged, sporty, dressy, all occasion diver/sport watch. Love those sworded hands.

Get some images on here once it's on your wrist!

Congrats on the decision and the new watch. You won't be disappointed with the quartz. The grab and go convenience is great. My 2264.50 says hello.

Took some time to clean the case and bracelet.
I'll have to take more pics after I receive my Nato and Hirsch straps.

Nice! And good choice with the quartz. If find I always favour my Quartz SMP over the Automatic Speedy. Its great just being able to pickup a watch and know its running on time. My next watch(s) is going to be automatic though.

Great choice. I have a place for that exact model (2264) in my collection... hopefully I can find one at a good price someday.

And yes, there are tons of watches out there that you can appreciate, admire, and sort of enjoy from afar. It doesn't mean you have to own all of them. That's precisely how I feel.
