This could be the third incoming of 2009…. Whoo hoooo!
After having sold my 1120 powered 1999 Seamaster Bond to help fund the purchase of a newer one (I ended up adding $200 to the sale proceeds to get a LNIB from 2006 :-)), and after selling my Titanium Electric Blue to pick up my new PO a few weeks ago (I ended up adding CAD $400 to the sale proceeds - I got it on my wrist today, as a matter of a fact, enjoying it like there’s no tomorrow! :-!), I started thinking about a Speedmaster again.
Indeed now I have a tiny bit of money that I could use for a purchase before having to replenish it later (I smell comics going off to eBay), so I thought I could indulge yet once again.
I’ve been wanting a Space related Omega for a long time, namely a Speedmaster. I’ve never being able to grab one however. :-( For one thing, my love of Divers always made me catch something or another besides a Speedy, and later when I would firmly decide to pick one up for real, I could never find one in my price range, or in the configuration and condition I deemed desirable.
In parallel, I have been lusting about an Ana-Digi for months, if not years. In all this time, I have looked at many models. I have decided I did not want an “affordable” one (so no Casio, Seiko, or sub-$500 Swiss or German), instead looking for something more exclusive.
So at various time I have considered the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Chronotimer (very nice, but a little too big and imposing for my tastes), the Bell & Ross Function Modern (a little too pricey for what it is, and frankly a bit too bland design-wise), and finally either the Breitling Aerospace or B1 which would have been excellent choices, but always end up being out of my price range too (is it because of the ultra high end SuperQuartz movement, I guess?).
Also there always has been the X-33 in the back of my mind, which would be my best choice: a space related (and space issued! :-!) Omega, what else do I need!
But those too, always ended-up WAY too expensive to acquire new, and mostly out of my budget even pre-loved (or with a TZ grading I did not care for, once in my budget). :-(
Well, UNTIL TODAY! I just snapped this one, doesn’t have a bracelet but comes close to NOS, having been worn a handful of times and stayed in a safe most of its life.
It’s freshly serviced from Omega (around $500 service, it seems) so hopefully I will not experience the kinks of the first generation X-33 (something about a collapsing crown, if memory serves?).
I got it for USD $1,385 shipped. So I could I get a Speedmaster and an Analog-Digital, all in the same package!
I hope it’s a good deal, I can still back off the deal if necessary, so I have to decide quick. What do you all think? Do I complete the deal? :-pIs it a good purchase?
