I got a chance to watch one of my favorite movies of all time, The Towering Inferno (watched this as a kid) starring Paul Newman and couldnt help but notice his big chrono watch. It seems to be a silver or white dial with duo black subdials so it couldnt be a Rolex Daytona. The movie was made way back in '74 and as everyone knows Mr. Newman was also an avid race car enthusiast having his own racing team so this could be a personal watch of his. I tried to grab a quick screenshot of the watch in a famous scene in the movie but could get a slightly grainy image at best.

Didn't he own a few Heuers? The style would certainly be correct for that era.

Ok so its a heuer. which model? I grabbed another screenshot with the strap showing and looks like a steel/black combo 2-tone.

Not my area at all, but see:

says some early Daytonas were cream with black subdials.

I would think it is far more likely to be a Heuer. The Daytonas all had three (black) subdials and the watch in the film picture very much looks as if it only has two.

Heuer probably made 20 different two dial chronometers... sometimes it is difficult to tell them apart with a good pic. With these photos identification is very difficult.

onthedash.com has lots of pics...
