View Full Version : Use of Cronograph

Having just got my first B (chronomat), I like having the "second" hand go round as opposed to just using the small second hand in the small round dial.

Is this OK or should I wary of having this go round indeterminately?

Also - If I stop the cronograph but not reset the hands, does this damage the watch in anyway?

I don't do this much by the way, but the thought of using it appeals

Cheers!

(PS loving it so far!)

In fact, the oils in the pivot points will eventually dry up if you don't exercise the chronograph. It really doesn't matter whether you run it or not. The Valjoux 7750 movement in your Chronomat typically requires a routine service about every 5 years anyway although many of us (including me) have gone as much as 7 years or more between service. You'll know when service is necessary when you notice the watch losing time by around six to twenty seconds a day or when it won't retain a decent power "reserve" after a full hand winding. You can't overwind the mechanism because there is a safety clutch built into the movement. Bottom line, enjoy the sweep chrono hand if you like. I do it all the time and I have quite a few B's with the caliber B13 like yours. Only time I stop the chrono is when I'm not wearing the watch overnite because it will use the power reserve a bit more than when the chrono is running. Hope this helps. :-)
Cheers,
Ron
