Casio G 2000 Review "The Fortress"

Hi,

I wanted to write a review for a Casio G 2000 for a while. Finally got a chance to.

I did look at the watch stores in the mall and everywhere they sell watches at the G-Shock 99% are with the 4 little screws on the back and plastic case. Not interested in these models.

I then remembered that someone posted an article some time ago about the Casio G-2000. This is a full metal case and screwback case. Is made in Malaysia. I know the ones made in Japan are better but I did not find anything wrong with made in Malaysia. I had this model diving, in the montains, swimmng pool, no problems at all.

It fits very well on the wrist. In fact it fits better than the DW-5000. It does sits higher. Is a thicker watch.
The design is somewhat "modern" compared to the classic DW-5000. In fact it looks really nice. The band on it is really round. It does "hug" my wrist better than DW 5000. Is very comfortable. The band is thicker as is the bezel. It has all the necessary functions. The bezel is hold in place by 4 round screws but I think is a better design than the original DW 5000 as the screws are protected. The screws are deel inside the bezel, they don't stick out.

All 4 pushers are wider in diameter and thick which helps with the settings and operation. The backlight is a nice blue. I took the band and bezel off and the whole case is thicker than DW 5000. Is also round in shape, maybe that is why is easy to wear? As I mentioned the bezel screws are inside, and also they are thicker than 5000. The springbars are thicker
too. Price is $57.99 so is very affordable. I paid $150 for the DW-5000.
I still like the original 5000 a lot as it is slimmer and it looks good. I think the G-2000 is easier to wear. I know, I know, there a hunderds of models to chose from G-Shock BUT given the price point and all StainlessSteel
construction I think is a very good watch value. I know there are others more expensive made of titanium with full metal case, but for me SS is still as good.

This model reminds me of a fortress I have seen back home long time ago. If you look at at the bezel at an angle it does resemble the shape of a fortress top. I assure you this "modern day" fortress is as tough as they come. I have been wearing it for the past 4 years.

I have been lucky enough to find ALL the spare parts to last me or outlast me as long as I live. 10 bands, 10 bezels, 40 bezel screws, 20 springbars, 12 rubber gaskets.

I like that it also uses a better finished case and caseback compared to the original square G's with the rough finished casings...

Is this the first G to use the "Shock Resist" Shield as a caseback emblem...

And isn't this the actual watch depicted in front of one of those famouse G-Shock stores in Japan, hanging out in front vertically with the word "G-Shock"?

I'm kinda bummed that this model was short-lived...Just in Y2K(2000) right? Long before the first onset of my wis addiction.
Well they did continue this series thru the 21xx like the 5600E replaced the 5600C, but like in that example...I feel the predecessor was far more superior to the replacement.
