Hello all.

I'm looking for some advice from folks familiar with both Laco's Pilot B Miyota and the Pilot 42 automatic.

I understand the the movement in the Pilot 42 automatic (ETA 2824-2) is considered to be superior to the Miyota movement.

Can anybody speak to differences in "fit and finish"? The difference in price is significant to me, but if the Pilot 42 automatic is measurably more "substantial" for lack of a better word, I'd be willing to make the additional investment.

Also, if there is any other considerations (e.g. durability) that would help in the decision making process, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

There are several significant differences between the two watches. Having owned both, I will comment.

The Miyota watch has a brushed case. The ETA has a satin case. The Miyota lugs are different from the ETA. The ETA has a date. The Miyota has a press-fit case back, the ETA is screw down. The Miyota has a non-screw down crown, the ETA is screw down. The ETA hacks, the Miyota does not.

There is no doubt, at least to me, that the ETA is a more valuable movement. They are both undecorated, but looking at the two movemments, the ETA appears to be of higher quality in terms of fit and finish.

Overall fit and finish: for both watches, the fit and finish are excellent. The case work on the Miyota watch is fantastic, given the price point.

Thanks for the feedback guys.

fachiro1 - it was actually a wrist shot of yours in the "Meine Laco/Miyota Movement" thread that sparked my interest in this type of watch.

I believe the watch in the photo is actually a Tuifly (which does not seem to be available at this time) and not the Pilot B Miyota - no Laco logo.

Do you mind if I PM you a couple of additional questions?

Ecunited - I am scheduled to receive the 42 mm ETA 2482-2 auto next week, and I had Laco apply an "A"-type face with no logo or dial. Call Tony (the god of laco watches, he's that good of a guy, super helpful and friendly) at www.timequest.us and he can mix and match for you.

I'm very much looking forward to getting mine next week, and if you are all lucky and behave, I'll do a full-size review... ;)

The Laco case with the auto movement has more authentic lugs.

FYI - Peter informed me a new stock of Pilot B Miyotas are coming in this week - so I ordered one!

Wrist shots to come whenever the watch arrives.
