Just turned 50 & got a new watch (pic attached). Funny story - first my wife wanted to buy me a trip to Europe, the classic wife-ism - it's her gift, not mine. ;-)

Then I was able to convince her that I really wanted a classic watch, so we went looking. I've been an Omega fan for years & was lusting after the Planet Ocean Chrono. Making a long story short - it's way to big & didn't get good vibes from the dealers I talked to about reliability. I dropped into a local shop that sold Breitlings, but I had always thought they were too busy, only having associated Navitimers with the brand. I liked the look of quite a few of them, not the least of which was the Superocean Heritage Chrono.

Now, my wife wants my present to be a surprise so I had to pick a couple of B's for her to pick from. I showed her the Chronomat, Blackbird, and Windrider (she really disliked the S-H Chrono). Well, she ordered a Chronomat but they sent the wrong watch & the re-ordered one wouldn't make it in time. She was upset & told me the whole story at this point. I suggested she have the AD search for one of the other watches, and to my good fortune, there happened to be one BB available in Canada... so I'm the proud owner of a beautiful Blackbird with black leather strap! :-!

I just got mine maybe 6 weeks ago... love it! It's hard to do it justice in a picture isn't it.

(It may seem somewhat contradictionary, but it's so nice it makes you want to shop for another Breitling)

The Blackbird... What a wonderful watch!

Congrats on this fine acquisition :-!

I'm still looking to purchase my first Breitling and among the one I've shortlisted is the Blackbird.

Fantastic!

Happy B-Day and that watch is better than trip to Europe :-) Moreover somday you will have the trip (as far as your wife make it as an objective) but now Breitling on your wrist will make the trip even more fascinating.

Looks like it all worked out for the better in the end. Blackbird has to be one of my favourite mechanicals :-! Love the big central date!

Just can't afford one :-(

Thanks for all the comments - I've been away/distracted for a few days.

I've been wearing it for a while now, and it's exactly what I thought it would be. I love the large date at 12 - it'll be a few years before I'll need my reading glasses to tell the date. :-)

I've got a question for the forum - apologies if it's been posted elsewhere. I just received a watch winder from family today. The winder has two settings - clockwise only or alternating clockwise & counterclockwise. The miniscule instructions says that most watches should use clockwise, but some should use counterclockwise. Any advice on the better setting for the BB - not that it'll be in the winder much! :-d

TIA

Good news... The BB winds both ways so your settings probably just has more to do with figuring out the min. rotations you can get away with. I don't think there's any benefit to it turning one way or the other, but if there is I will be corrected.
