Hey there, this is my first post here in the Omega section :-!!
Yesterday I found this Genève forgotten in a drawer in my in-laws house:

I'm thinking about maybe restoring it. Can anyone tell me something about the watch?

Thanks! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v321/luwerner/gif/clapping.gif
That's exactly the one! My f-i-l had his on a leather strap, but I don't think that the strap that is on it right now is original, because it has 18 mm - though the buckle is original Omega.
But one thing is bothering me: should the case back be plain like that? I've been going through dozens of Omegas from that period and all the casebacks that I see have something engraved on them or some sort of motif.

A plain caseback is probably OK for this model.
The Geneve's were kind of the lower end of the Omega model spectrum in the 1970's, although they had the same movements as watches much farther up the cost scale.
The caseback motifs that I suspect you are seeing belong to the Seamaster (sea monster/hippocampus) and Constellation (observatory) lines. And even those were avaliable without the logos on the back if one wanted a watch for presentation purposes.
Hope this helps,

That helps a LOT! :-!
Those are exactly the watches I looked at. Even though the Genève is supposed to be the el cheapo line, I thought maybe this one had the caseback switched.
Thank you very much for all this info! :thanks

Welcome to the Geneve club!
Maybe we should get fancy cards like the Speedy and SMP guys
This one's mine. No photo of mine, though, as it needs a new dial.

Enron, I'm not member of the club yet . First I have to convince my father-in-law to sell or give me the watch.
I'm already working on my sales pitch :-d.

For the record, the Geneve line was never "el cheapo". The idea behind the Geneve line was for Omega to try out new designs and case styles, etc. without impacting their flagship models and also as a venue to sell reliable stainless steel watches at more reasonable price points than, say, gold Constellations.
While somewhat less popular to collectors, they are still very nice watches with the same movements as any other non-chronometer Omega.
All that one really needs is a movement service and it should be good to go. The case back scratch may be unfortunatel, but it won;t show on the wrist.
Take it to a local watchmaker for a clean and lube, then wear the heck out of it for another 5 years or so before repeating the service. :)

Cool! Even better, then. Thanks for the info! :-!
The idea is exactly that: have it restored, buy a new nice black leather (croc?) strap but use the original buckles and use the watch how it is supposed to be used - on the wrist b-).

How funny; I have the exact same watch lying here to be restored! Same caseback: plain.

I like the boxy look it has. Very retro. ;-)
Included a pic of the movement. Not very special, that 1012. But it still keeps perfect time after 35 years.
How is your watch coming along? Would love to see some pics!

It's not on my wrist today just because I still haven't found a proper strap for it b-). Well, the one I got (croc-like leather) looks very nice but is too short for my wrist :-(.

I think I'll put some blue strap on it. Not sure yet. Included some pictures with my initial reply including the movement. Enjoy!

Hi Luciano. Hope you get this one up and running. I also had my doubts with acquiring my first Geneve but now planning to get my second! What I have is quite similar to yours except that you have a rounded square case. Mine has the ref. 166.0168 with the same 1012 caliber movement. I have it on either an aftermarket black croc leather strap or the original mesh (Milan links). Got it after a thumbs up by Desmond in this forum. Geneve is running strong and keeping good time.
Cheers! Enjoy your Geneve.
