Hello all,

Seriosluy considering buying a Planet Ocean (ref. 2201.50.00) and have read a few comments about the coaxial movement being so advanced and requiring special tools for servicing, that Omega Authorized service centers are currently the only place that can service a coaxial movement correctly.

Are these statements valid? Regardlesss of the advantages of the movement, I'm not too keen on buying a watch that can only be serviced by Omega and not by my preferred watch service guy..

I would have thought that the person to ask this question is your watch service guy. Certainly some people are perfectly happy to work on them and, I assume, have the appropriate tools and manual. I am told that the escapement is 'fiddly' but no more than that. I suspect that the FSB is more of a pain than the coaxial escapement.

The two local watchmakers I use are both trained and equipped to service and repair co-axial movements. One is an Omega service center but both are good.

It is my understanding that the 8500 series caliber was designed to make working on the coaxial movement much easier; there is more room to work than in the 2500 series caliber, where the components are more difficult to access . . . or so I read somewhere!

Thanks for all replies. I'll call my local watch repair guy as well as a few others in town to ask.

Best regards,
