Good afternoon all, I’ve recently been offered a Favre Leuba watch with an A Schild 1687/1688 movement. I’ve been thinking of getting a vintage automatic for a while now so I’m quite tempted to purchase it as I like Favre Leuba watches, but I’m new to watch collecting and know fairly little about this movement. Is it as good as their in house movements, like their double barrel ones and how does it compare to say an automatic Omega Seamaster. :-) |>

Also is it easily serviced, as I hope to use it in rotation with my other daily’s. :-s :-!

:thanks

I think it’s a Favre Leuba 1152:

Hello
I've owned (but since sold) a watch with the FL 1152 - I found it was an OK movement - nothing special, but in the three years that I had it it broke the mounting for the rotor twice.

It depends on the Seamaster, but I don't think it would come close to an Omega movement. I cannot remember the calibre, maybe a 551 or 552 (someone help me out here) in a vintage Seamaster 300 was one of the best movements I have ever owned.

One of the risks I found with FL is that their movements are a bit of a parts-bin approach sometimes, unless they are the in-house movements. If you want a FL but want to spend some bigger money (but still less than a Seamaster), then perhaps try and get the 36,000 bph automatic movement.

regards

Thank you for your reply, :-! I think I’ll still treat myself to the watch but keep it as part of my collection and just wear it occasionally. Shame about the movement being delicate, I could of seen myself wearing this one most days as it‘s fairly dressy without being too formal. :-(

Anywho, I’ve the perfect excuse now for when shmbo complains about me getting another one after this. Much obliged. :-! b-)
