Hi All,

After an absence from the forum for about a year as an active member, though I have been a continuous "lurker", I have recently purchased my 4th Breitling and need your help!

After a long search and some unsuccessful bidding on Ebay, I have recently purchased a restored Nav 806. This is a dream come true for me and I have bought it as a keeper rather than investment to sell on.

I need your help - despite much searching on the Net, I can't seem to find out any info on how much and how frequently to wind the watch......
Can any of you watch gurus please help me out? I want to make sure that I look after my new "baby" properly and make sure that I don't do it any damage to it by over winding it.

I am off on holiday for three weeks and to collect my new purchase and shall post some pics once I am back in the UK.

Many thanks for your advice in advance.....

Stuart

Congrats jemstu.... :gold

I am sure we all look forward to seeing some pics of your new 806 :-)

Although most hand-wound watches run for 40 hours+ after a full wind it is usual to wind fully once each 24 hours (don't keep topping up during the day - once is plenty enough). Most owners wind the watch fully in the morning just before they put it on the wrist. Some people prefer to wind the crown forwards and back between the thumb and forefinger; others (me!) wind only forwards and reposition the thumb and finger for each turn slightly away from the crown. As winding the crown back does not actually wind the watch, I suggest that by winding both ways you could be doubling the wear on the stem and associated parts - ok, pedantic I know!... either technique is fine really.

You will not "overwind" your watch - just don't force it as you feel that it is fully wound.

This is also a good time to check its timing against your radio-controlled digital alarm clock (a useful thing to have IMHO) and set the time if required before wearing it.

Cheers,

:-! Thanks a lot Alan,

I can hardly contain my excitement as get it on Monday night. I have wanted one since I first became aware of them.
On my wrist for the past 4 years has been my Crosswind that doesn't miss a beat and is accurate to within 2 seconds per month since I've had it. The reduced accuracy of the 806 is going to be a small price to pay and now I am going to have to make sure I give them equal wrist time.

Bought my first Breitling in 1998 in Austria (quartz Transocean) when I considered a Rolex and wasn't impressed with the build quality of the "R". My father-in-law now has my Transocean and it is still as good as new.
My wife has also joined the "fold" when 2 years ago she purchased a two tone Chronomat (white face with black leather and deployant).

The bug has bitten and I can see the collection growing.......

I'll post the pics when I am back in just over 3 weeks time.

Regards
Stuart
