:-) Hi recently I came across a vintage gold oyster datejust model that claims that it is gold plated. The owner told me that the process is known as roll gold or rolgold and according to him, the it is a different process from plating and it ensure that the watch will keep its gold colour for many many years. Will appreciate if anybody here who has knowledge about vintage models to confirm that there is indeed such a process and perhaps gives a short explanation on how this is done. I understand that rolex had stopped making any watches using this process.:thanks

Rolex has applied gold in different ways but never plated. They have done overlays. The gold on the clasps of TT watches are a solid strip of gold applied onto the clasp but I have no idea how these techniques are done. =) maverick
