As it's mentioned above I am buying a Navitimer world. I have a chronomatic but I just don't like it. I have yet to see the Navi world in person and I am having a bit of trouble deciding between the black or the silver. I am not sure from pics if it is in fact a really light silver or almost a white? Anyone seen it or own it? How does it look? I just think the black might look a little harsh at 46mm. Any opinions and help would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance. Also is this watch a lot thicker then my chronomatic, like super avenger thick? thanks

I have just bought a new World less than a month ago. It is silver in real life (was actually a surprise to me). Its thickness does not bother me at all at 15.5mm and is only slightly thicker than the 13.6mm of the Chrono-matic. The main purpose of the World is the extra 24 hour hand. On the silver face this is the clearest hand with its own blue scale. The silver looks very cool and is somewhat unusual in that the sub-dials are the same colour. The disadvantage that I find is that there is very little contrast between the silver face and the silver hands. I have actually been toying with swapping this out for a black faced one for this reason. Perhaps if you dislike the black we can swap. The Super Avenger is actually 18.6mm wide and as such in the UK is subject to planning consent.
Are you after a very big watch or a navitimer with a second timezone?

i own a nav world with a black dial. personally, i think the detail of the face gets lost with a white or silver dial. but, i'm not really a fan of white or silver dials anyway, regardless of the brand. i just feel the detail is seen a lot more with a darker color.
good luck

Sorry for the post hi-jack, but I just ordered a white/silver face, having debated between the blue and the white. Haven't actually seen the white, so your comments are very helpful to me. I have a white-dialed Super Avenger, but it's dial is VERY white. Even still, it's a little hard to read the hands sometimes.
You're saying the dial is more silver? And it's a little hard to read because of? As per your comment below, I would LOVE to see some more pics... please post as many as you can, in including some wrist shots... that would be so very much appreciated.
I have until monday to change my order to blue!
Thanks a million.

Dear Ross,
here are some pictures that I took last week, if you want any more from different angles or light I will do those today. The face is not white at all, it really is silver. Thus you have silver hands on a silver face with silver sub-dials. Together with the extra 24 hour hand this is not an easy watch to tell the time with quickly. I bought it as I needed the 24 hour hand and this is the clearest hand with the big red arrow at the end and its own blue numbered scale. The watch is big and dramatic, and it yet it does not feel bulky or heavy to wear. If I ever catch a reflection of my self in the mirror and the watch has come out from under my cuff, it does look a bit like a DVD stuck to my wrist.
In many of the photographs dtrong directional lights will light the hands and the face differentially thus showing a greater contrast than exists on flatter light such as in cloud cover. The increased size of the face (46mm) makes the slide rule easier to read. When I went shopping I had in mind a black World with a black leather strap. I ended up with a white World on a 'gold' croc strap!
Do ask if you want more pictures or if you have any questions.

Hi Ian,
Thanks so much for the pictures and the comments. It's a beautiful watch and definately dramatic, as you say. Might I ask why you started out looking for a black dial, and ended up with a white? Do you regret buying the silver at all? I still am waffling between the blue and white, even this evening. I wish I would have seen this post earlier, as I would love a few more pics, perhaps from a slightly different angle, such as one might have when glancing at the wrist, and perhaps a wrist shot as well. I know exactly what you mean about the different light making it easier/harder to read... my white Super is the same way. But it has silver subs, and sometimes that distracts my eye a little. I was hoping all-silver would make it a little easier.
Perhaps if you see this in time you could post a few more pics? And thank you Ian so much for taking the time to respond. If you don't have time I fully understand and still appreciate any more comments, with or without pics.

Dear Ross,
I have taken a load of pictures this evening to try and depict what the face looks like in real lighting conditions. This turned out to be quite a feat as any direct flash light makes the hands stand in stark contrast to the face as they are much more reflective than the brushed silver surface. I eventually used 5 flash units, all off camera and all with diffusers pointing away from the watch. This image is the one with with the strap in the north-south orientation. I have included a couple of others to try and help you see different angles as requested.
I bought the silver face because I always wanted a classic black faced Navitimer with a black leather strap; I just think that they look timelessly classic. Thus I thought the silver faced one would compliment it rather than having two black Navis. I would never advise anyone in such a personal matter but yes, I do regret my choice and it is because it is so difficult to read. I went into an AD today to try and find an Airwolf and I saw a black faced World on a black leather strap. It looked stunning. And because the subdials were black it was really easy to read. I would urge you to try all three on before committing.
Let me know if I can help further.

Ian, those are great shots that you took of your fabulous watch! And thank you so much for taking the trouble and the time to make sure that you had the shots I was looking for. They have helped me a great deal, as have your comments. There's nothing like hearing from someone who owns the item and had experience with it. Even better, someone who is kind enough to take the time to articulate and illustrate those experiences. Thank you!
Now that I see your picture on the left, which you so successfully captured, I'm also concerned about the silver dial. As I said, I have a white Super Avenger, and sometimes I get tired of trying to pick out the hands from the face, especially in dimmer ighting. I've been torn between the silver and the blue dial... I know I'll love either one, as I have never seen a breitling I didn't covet... but I think I'll give my eyes a break and go with more functionality. I'm going to call my AD tomorrow and see if I can still change my order to blue. If not, well then, I'm sure I'll still love the silver, as I know you do also.
Thank you so much Ian, for all your help. Looking forward to posting some pics when I finally get mine!
Thanks again.

A number of years ago my wife gave me a White Dialed Rolex. I had the same visibility problem and after a couple of years had them put a Blue dial on it. Much easier to read now.

i have a world with silver dial on brown croco, and i am very very very happy with it.
never had any problem reading the time.
in my oppinion a silver dial is a better choice because all the strapcolors can put on it and still looking great. i think a black dial must have a black strap and a bleu dial a bleu strap.
or..... go for metal bracelet..
anyway you will love the "world" in every color!!!
