Hi All,
I received my first Speedmaster this week and took it to the watchmaker to have it checked out and documented. Just received the email photos and the back inside is stamped 145022 - 74ST The photos of the movement were not clear enough to tell me anything but he did confirm that it is an 861. My question - Is this enough info to determine the date of manufacture ? If not what additional info is needed?

Thank You
Kane Waltrop

Big Congrats on the new Speedy, Kane :-!
The "74" tells you that it was manufactured around '74 but, to know more specifically, you need the eight digit serial number off of the movement.
You can reference the chart here (http://www.speedmaster-mission.net/) on JM's excellent site.

Congratulations, Kane, and welcome to the Speedy Pro Club. JM will send you a membership card.

How's the 601 doing?

Eric, Thanks for the quick reply, I'll have to get those numbers from the watchmaker this week. I also asked him about the yellow color of the lume and he said the dial is perfect, the color shows it's an older watch, don't mess with it. Do you concur?John- Hi and thanks for the warm welcome. As you can see the "601" must have been infected with some strange desease. Since it arrived, I've purchased a few more Omegas, and I'm on a first name basis with a watchmaker I didn't even know a month ago. LOL
I've been practicing on an older watch with the spring bar tool before I change the strap on the "601". It is so perfect I don't want to put a scratch on it!

Definitely. I can only give you my opinion, but I think most guys around here would agree; a little age gives a lot of character ;-)
I'm sure we'd love to see some pics when you get it back!
