Top 5 Germans I'm after:

1) Sinn 356
2) Damasko DC57
3) Stowa Seatime
4) Sinn EZM3
5) Stowa Marine

(I'd love a Dornbluth, but these are at least ones I have a chance at!)

Well there are already a couple of Schauer/Stowas on the order book.

I keep thinking about a Lange & Sohne, but somehow never pull the trigger.

For the purpose of narrowing down to "close" to 5, I am only going to list watches that I would have a reasonable chance of buying new or LNIB over the next few years so the GO Panograph which would be #1 for me is not on my "realistic" wish list. Hopefully that will change one day;-)

Union Diplomat Power Reserve
UTS Chronograph

Sinn...U1, Arktis or 756
Damasko DC56
Nomos Tangomat
Limes Pharo Power Reserve(seems to be a popular one)
Stowa Seatime(Would change to a Chrono if Jorg rolls one out)
Not bad....I only had to list two over the 5 that were asked for:-D

UVox
February 13th, 2006, 23:58
Sinn 203 (arctis or not, i am not really sure)
Muehle S.A.R Rescue Timer
Sinn 903
Sinn 142 (hard to find for a good price)
Schauer Day/Date
Schauer Kulisse 10/11 or 12

1: Sinn 103
2: Stowa (TBD, but I do want a Stowa in my collection)
3: GO Senator or Navigator Chrono
4: A Dornblueth, eventually
5: Tutima Commando, just like smg
6: Tutima DI300
7: A Limes (TBD, but I do want a Limes in my collection)

I think I'm forgetting one or ten ;-)

I've had my five and then some over the last few months. :-)

I'm going to wait to hit the lottery and then I'm going to buy the Glashutte Original of my choice and it won't be an entry level one either. :-D

Where do I begin! OK, Limiting to German watch only that are for me
actually attainable? Hmmmm...that makes this the "short list" version!

Stowa Seatime
Stowa Aviator
Sinn 856 (maybe 756)
Sinn U2 (maybe even the UX...egads a quartz!)
Schauer Durowe project of some kind
Tutima NATO (or Sinn - either w/ L5100)

Oh and now my Wife wants a black Kliene Schauer w/ date.
She described it as "the architecture we like, but in a watch".
Well put.

Actually, my next watch will most likely be this Junkers Fliegerchronograph 6524-2. It has a 40mm case, coin edge, sapphire glass crystal, and uses the 23 jewel Poljot 3133 manual wind (handaufzug) movement which is the Russian version of the obsolete Valjoux 7734. The Valjoux 7734 is the movement that in my vintage Breitling Datora and its been an extremely accurate timepiece. B-)

That looks nice Steve but you'll get flagged by some of our German purists for unnecessary decoration won't you for the gold triangle?
As for my "wish list", only 2 Germans currently on the horizon:

Sinn U1 (Maybe a UX if they hit first)
Stowa Seatime

Go ahead and hit a really HUGE lotto while you're at it Steve and get us all GO's will you?
I'll "settle" for an entry one?

1. That triangle has been Junkers trademark logo since it was designed in 1925 by F.P. Droemmer. I think it fitting and proper for it to be on the watches bearing the Junkers name. |>
2. If and when I win that HUGE lottery, I promise you a GO.

To be realistic, the one at the top of my wish-list is the Sinn 303 Modellbahn chronograph. That would be so much fun with our train layouts!

Griff

Thomas,

That cockpit clock is sweet! I recently purchased a manual wind Russian MIG-29 cockpit clock. B-)

Well, I have three watches on order that should be arriving within the next four months: The Stowa Pro Diver, The Dornblueth 99.2, and The Nomos Tangomat Non Date. That will probably be it for quite a while but as for a wish, I am very attracted to this GO watch. It is well out of my price range but I still enjoy looking at it. I can only imagine how gorgeous it is in person. Stephen

Looks like the everyone in the German forum shares the same tastes :-!

Interesting that Lange aren't desired around these parts. Too "old money"?

Personally I prefer the GO designs, but I haven't handled any of them...

Viewed the Lange line in person last month in San Francisco.
As much as I think they are beautiful in pics, they were absolutely dull in
my hand. There were a couple of models I did like, don't get me wrong,
but for the most part they were lifeless. What a difference it makes
to handle watches in person! Interestingly, my favorite overall watch
out of all the major brands viewed was the new IWC Ingenieur. A bit
thick and heavy but it's a really terrific watch to hold.

The Lange watches that I did like were the simpler models; Langmatik
(Saxonia is cleaner design) and Arkade.

Interesting Andrew, thanks.

Have you handled and GOs?
I wonder what your impressions were vs. the Langes?

Interesting Andrew, thanks.

Have you handled and GOs?
I wonder what your impressions were vs. the Langes?

A watch of this level is not a decision for someone
to take as a light one! Here is my short version of opinion on the
matter and I truly hope that this helps you.

Above all, I urge you to go out and handle the watches that you
are interested in for yourself before committing to such a watch.
You will thank me and yourself as well. Make a nice trip out of it
as a treat to yourself! You may even find that you like something
other in person that you had not even considered before. I did on
my trip recently!

Do I like Lange better than G.O.? Not particularly, but I can say
that the 2 are on equal footing now with the new models for fit
and finish (also looked at Patek and JLC but that is another story).
Would I put one against the other? No. There is not a loser in
the two makers, only a personal preference and that is what you
have to see for your own eyes. For example, I love the Lange 1.
In person it did nothing for me and I find it sterile in presentation.
No spark for me but for another person there may be.

The new G.O. is a very finely made watch today. Personally, I prefer
the "personality" of the older ones over the refinement of the new,
but that is my own taste. There are some Lange models that I would
buy (if I could), and some G.O.models that I would buy.

I mentioned the Lange model preferences already, and from the G.O.
line still have an eye toward the Panomatics and the Senator Perpetual.
The latter is out of my range but it costs nothing to dream! Rightnow
I only have an older (Pre-Swatch) Senator Navigator.

Best Regards,

Andrew

Thanks Andrew,

AFAIK, either makes aren't available in Canada.
I'm going to Germany in May for a first hand look at them |>

It's very hard (borderline painful), but I'm saving up from now til then and maybe I'll come back with something really great...

I look very forward to hearing about your trip and hopefully
a new watch find! :-)

The only watch on my wishlist is the Nomos Tangomat. It will have to wait a while as I purchased a GO in January.

Some lovely choices. Alas, the GO's and the Lange's remain "lottery win" pieces for me (the Dornblueth 99.2 not being far off that aspirational level either...)

My GO dealer phoned me today: The GO Sport Evolution (ref 39-31-43-03-14) came in. So I drove to the KaDeWe (http://www.kadewe.de/index2_engl.php) to have a closer look on that chrono. First thing I noticed: The watch didn´t come with a steel bracelet but with a very comfortable rubber strap (22mm ?).

Pic borrowed from armstrongrockwell

Geeez what a watch :-p Diameter was very impressive to me because I was wearing my small GO Flieger Chrono. The new chrono diameter is 42,5mm, height: 18 mm (17,7 mm to be precise). A very hefty watch.

There´s a new one on my wish list. ;-)
