Can anybody offer some info on this?

You know I don't think I've ever seen so much shockproofing on one watch :-S

It is likely that the springs other than on the balance are retaining springs, with no anti-shock capability. Seiko has both diashock and diafix springs on current movements--Diashock is only on the balance. The diafix springs are just to access the cap jewels.

Well, the watch seems to be a fairly typical Corum from the earlier days of the company (founded in 1955), judging by what is shown in Brunner/Pfeiffer-Belli. The movement seems to be a Peseux 7001 of Nomos Tangente fame, adapted to give extra shockproofing or at least capping. Today, I am wearing a Rotary watch from the late sixties/early seventies with an Adolf Schild 1900/01 in which I recently got round to replacing a damaged date spring. The base movement has 17 jewels but this one has 21 - the escape and off-centre gear wheel (can't remember the technical term for that one offhand) both are capped top and bottom to give four extra jewels. No shockproofing on those, though - just simple caps.
