View Full Version : Cal 321 Chrono Stopping

Hi everyone,

I have recently purchased a refurbished cal 321 Speedy. :-D

There seems to be a problem with the chrono. When it gets to 15 minutes, 20 minutes and a couple of other places - like 22 minutes - on the minutes sub dial, the chrono seconds hand stops at 12 o'clock, and needs to be stopped and restarted, sometimes twice, to get it going again.

However, this is not always consistent - it seems to be stopping at fewer places each time I run the Chrono, but it usually stops at 15 minutes and twenty minutes. :-S

Before I take it back to get it fixed under the warranty, I was wondering if this could be a "running-in" problem - lubrication or something? The watch may have been left not running for a few weeks or longer before I bought it.

Thanks,

Andrew

BIG Congrats on the Speedy, Andrew! The sticking could just be a problem of lubrication, but it might be the result of worn teeth on the chronograph wheel.
I'd have a good watchmaker check it out.
Good luck!

I had a similar problem with my 321 after it had been serviced. The chrono second had was erratic and would stop at different spots on the dial. The frustrating thing was that it would run perfectly at my watchmaker's.

One day when it stopped, I dropped by the watchmaker and demo'ed the problem. I left it for observation, he made some "adjustements" and it has run OK ever since.

As he says, "Chronos are like women and can be finicky - especially older ones." (Hey, ladies, he said it, I didn't!)

Thank you everyone for your help.

It now seems to be doing it it in fewer places - it now only stops once in a 30 minute cycle (at 22 minutes)! Seems like a lube issue?

I will keep exercising that chrono and looking for the perfect circuit of the minute dial ;-) If the watch is well behaved for a whole week it will avoid the Doctor!

A strange problem. Now teh chrono only stops at 23 minutes, but does so consistently. You guys were right. Time to visit the Doctor! :thanks
